Live from Interbike

I’m in Las Vegas this week for the cycling industry’s big show, known as Interbike.  It’s North America’s largest bicycle trade event and show and is held in wild and crazy town of Las Vegas each September.

It’s like freaking Cycling Disneyland over here with absolutely everything bike related that you could possibly imagine.  I’ve been having fun checking out all the bikes and products, plus meeting and interacting with my cycling industry online buddies as well.  I’m having so much fun that I can’t even stop to write too much….so here’s a quick video for you: Live From Interbike.

I’ll be back with some photos and more details tomorrow or over the weekend.  Right now I have to run outside and warm in the Las Vegas heat….it’s downright frigid here in the Sand’s Expo Center.

Enjoy Your Ride

Is there anything for amateurs about bike maintenance? That would be awesome for me.

Hi Melinda, I didn’t talk to anyone about maintenance but my friend Victor has a great beginner maintenance class online that you could take. Here’s more information on that: http://thefluentcyclist.com.

I’d also like to hear what you think of Surly’s Krampus – I considered getting one but they don’t make them in a small enough frame to fit me.

Oh and, by the way, I’m totally jealous!!! Have a blast 🙂

Visit the crew at Salsa (tell them hi from Myrna, ok, they won’t know who I am even though I met a couple of them at a bike demo but you can tell them I’m Ben Witt’s customer) and look at the Beargrease – that’s the bike I’ve ordered. Owen’s getting the Mukluk 2. Ask them to tell you all the reasons fat bikes are great to own even if you don’t have snow!!!

    • Darryl is Loving the Bike on September 20, 2012 at 10:25 pm

One step ahead of you, Myrna. I told “Kid” that you and your husband ordered the bikes and were super excited about them. I also asked them about riding the Mukluk and Beargrease on terrain other than sand and snow as well. I can’t wait to see pictures of you guys on those new bikes.

    • Darryl is Loving the Bike on September 21, 2012 at 7:49 pm

Myrna, I talked to the guys at Salsa again today and they said the Beargrease’s are on a container right now and should be in very soon.

Oh man, I’m so jealous. I’d love to go to Interbike. I’d like to know more about road disc brakes and 650b mountain bikes.

You should have jumped in the SUV with us when we left Austin…hahahaha. I’ll see what I can find out about those for you, Paul.

I’d like to know more about cyclist safety. Maybe new product innovations or causes/movements that are getting drivers to accept cyclists.

Team Wendy is there and they do helmets for the military and recreational sports, might be cool to see what they have.

There is a conference coming up on early 2014 called FLOW and it is intended to create better harmony amongst all that use the roads. Check out http://flowfuture.com/.

There is a large amount of companies at Interbike this year designed to make cyclists more visable as well….not sure if that is the answer, but I’m sure it helps.

I’ll take a look for Team Wendy tomorrow.

Thanks for the info. It’s like having my own field rep at the event. Sounds like you have a shopping list for the day. Hope you have enough coffee.

I want to find out more about the Salsa Beargrease and the Warbird their new gravel crusher!

    • Darryl is Loving the Bike on September 20, 2012 at 9:48 pm

I spent some time with the good folks at Salsa today. Love their bikes. I didn’t ask them particularly about any certain models, but I’ll stop by again tomorrow and ask about these. Rock on.

    • Myrna CG Mibus on September 20, 2012 at 10:24 pm

The Beargrease is awesome!!! It’s so lightweight and stunning to boot!

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
