Kid Rock, Kraft Dinner, and Budweiser
I’ve been riding quite the hypocritical journey the past few weeks, and definitely not practicing what I preach. Yeah, me…. Mr. Positivity. To sum it up, I’ve just been plain down…….and not really doing much to climb back up. I’ve recognized my mood and not really tried to cover it up…..I’ve just gone with it.
This is why I like to write about personal development in our Make it Happen Monday features. Not because I want to share my Wisdom with the world……but because I am in need of ongoing inspiration and positivity for myself. So what exactly is the secret to living a healthy, happy, and positive life?
Well, let me tell you about something I read in an article a long time ago. There was a small post on bad boy rock star, Kid Rock. He explained that before he was famous, he loved to sit back and eat Kraft Dinner and drink Budweiser. When he became famous, he still found happiness in eating Kraft Dinner and drinking Budweiser.
He has a simple passion, and because of it…..he is a happy man. I personally envy people who can create happiness with simple pleasures.
We all crave Happiness, right? So what is it that makes you truly happy? What do you do to ensure it is part of your daily life? What do you do to ensure it continues?
If you’re like me, surrounding yourself with Family and Bicycles helps a lot. But what else?
We all go through periods of confusion, doubt, and times when we just ain’t as spunky as we’d like to be. This is the time where we need positive words and wisdom the most. There are so many encouraging messages and words that can be used to push us back up when we’re down.
Today I suggest Kid Rock’s method and to recommend focusing on simple pleasures. Focus all your energy towards each and every simple pleasure that comes your way today…..I know there will be many.
Like Joel (who I really think is awesome by the way and have never met the guy) I have sat on this post, and sat, and written and deleted. One thought of course that occurs to you is if a guy like Darryl gets down how the _ _ _ _ am I gonna keep myself up. HAH Darryl is Human.
I lead an amazing live, I am loved by a wonderful person, I have a great.. well… everything, and in the last year I have felt on more than one occasion like you do in this post. WHY?? Not really sure. Age maybe, mortality, but oddly, at least conciously, I dont really think about that stuff. So what is it.
I think for me I am such an incredibly goal driven person I derive a lot of happiness from achieving goals, The problem is I set too freakin many of them. I create all these criseses that really are not criseses at all .
I think we all need a reset button. Re-prioritize, step back from the craziness and remind ourselves what is important and what are the true basic needs not all the artificial and self-inflicted ones that you kill yourself to try to achive.
Simplify.
I agree with Kid Rock (and strangely enough, this is not the first time).
Glad you liked this one, Eric. I need to hear more about the other times you’ve agreed with Kid Rock. I really hope one of these days that you and I can hit the reset button together and just spend a few days relaxing together.
I really hope for that too Darryl. That would be great.
Loved the post and this comment thread (and the commenter)
I wanna be a COW BOY BAAAABY
I’ve been thinking about this post since I first read it Monday morning, I’ve written and deleted more than a few comments, none seemed to deliver the message I intended. What I want to say is masterfully articulated in the following quote by Denis Waitley
“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, or worn. It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace & gratitude.”
Happy riding my friends, I wish you nothing but peace and happiness.
Fantastic reply, my man. Great quote….thanks for sharing it.
It happens, you know? Suddenly, you find yourself feeling down in the dumps – maybe without even knowing how you got there. Maybe it’s work-related; maybe family stuff. Sometimes both. It’s tough.
Spending time with my kids helps; riding my bike helps. Reading cycling magazines or websites brings me happiness, too. So does mowing my yard.
My friend Paul says that I live inside my head. I suppose that’s true. When I can spend time in there just letting my mind wander while I ride or mow or hike, I usually am able to lift myself out of my funk and get my groove back. I wish you luck doing the same.
Thanks, Paul. I’m usually able to get myself out of funks as well….and I’m sure things will work out for this one as well. Getting nice comments like yours helps a lot. I hope you know how much I appreciate it. I’m like you in that I also spend way too much time inside my own head.
Oh, and a nice little vacation to Austin sure would help things as well.
Steady on Lad…. you’ll find that mojo again. For some it is a hug, others it’s food and / or drink (maybe a super shake from Keli ?), for some just doing something for someone you don’t even know (random acts of kindness sort of thing) helps. Sometimes just connecting with someone from the long past helps. I have used all of those and then some in the past. It may even be something doing something unexpected. Keep ridin’ buckaroo.
Thanks for your comment and recommendations. I like your idea about random acts of kindness. I used to focus on that more when I was younger. Maybe I should be revisiting it. Thank You.
Sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling down. I like the advice you shared from Kid Rock. I wonder if he still feels that way now? Smiles.
Thanks Rebecca. Good question…..next time I run into Kid, I’ll ask him.
Darryl this is your best article to date. I absolutely love this message and what you had to say.
I appreciate your comment, Jen.
