Tasmania-Cycling

Visiting Australia, the great land down under is for sure a special treat. The country is full of beautiful spots to enjoy with all your friends and family. From the Great Barrier Reef to Bondi Beach and the Sydney Opera House there isn’t a lack of hot spots to take in.

Why not though take your Australian getaway to a whole new level by visiting some of the best sites via bike? It may just make your trip that much more enjoyable!

One incredibly amazing spot that every cyclist would love is cycling through the Island of Tasmania. It is here where the roads are smooth, the traffic is light and the views are truly amazing. Simply rent a Budget car hire and take it to Melbourne. Then jump on a ferry and stop at a tourist bureau to pick up a complimentary bike-touring guide and your off. Every road is wonderful so the only decision you have to make is which one to start with!

If you decide though to skip the ferry to Tasmania, once you arrive in Melbourne you have also arrived at one fantastic riding destination in itself. This incredible city now touts itself as a “true cycling city”. Within the city there are a slew of great cycling trails that are a meandering joy for all. One example is the Capital City Trail that allows you to take in sights such as the Docklands to even the Collingwood Children’s Farm.

The city of Hobart is also ideal for cyclists. It is compact which lends itself well for non-car transport as it has the highest proportion of people within the country that walk to work! Within the city are a slew of stretches of cycle path, including a route along an old railway track in the northern suburbs, and a scenic 10km path that hugs the waterfront. – A for sure spot to take a GoPro with!

For those cyclists looking for a real challenge, take a drive with your bike to Perth. The third windiest city in the world, this is the perfect place for a cyclist to take some risks and make the ride even more exciting! The city itself offers beautiful long stretches of coastline and a flat landscape but also hilly rides out of town.

If you don’t mind some hard rain, the city of Darwin is another great spot for year round cycling. Here there is balmy temperatures and flat terrain including the 70km of cycle lanes that weave throughout the Northern Territory capital.

It may take four wheels to get to some of best attractions and destinations. Once you arrive though, by having just two can make your Australian adventure that much more wonderful!

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
