Loving the BITE: Beet-It Chips

This week’s Loving the Bite recipe can’t be beat.  As a true SuperFood vegetable with a beautiful color, it’s hard to beat beets.  They can be intimidating, I know.  But, once you get used to adding them to salads, smoothies, and even snacking on them with our Recipe of the Week, you’ll find them...

Loving the Bike TV: Treat Yourself to Goodness

In this episode of Loving the Bike TV, I talk about the importance of treating yourself.  We often put guilt on ourselves when we’re doing this sort of thing, but ditch the guilt and let the goodness fly. Have a view and let me know what you think…..then go out and treat yourself to...

Ever need an on-the-go quick snack or mini-meal?  Or a more substantial snack for a long ride? Something that will provide quite a bit of calories but still go down easy? You know, something that will help break any risk of a bonk? Me too. But even in the midst of an entire aisle...

Loving the BITE: Slow Cooker Carne Asada (PLUS Vegetarian Options & More Delicious Taco Ideas)

A couple weeks ago I posted a taco recipe that will change your life. Today, as promised, I have some ideas for taco fillings…the protein part. Each of these works great with the delicious taco cabbage slaw, cilantro, and home-fried shells! And although this recipe is a bit of a “cheat meal” for anyone...

TdF 2016: What It Takes To Fuel a Grand Tour

What?  Is it really time for the Tour de France already?  Man, my life in the fast lane makes it tough for me to keep up with what’s happening in the world of cycling…..and it just hit me like two days ago that it’s time for the tour. Have you ever wondered how those...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
