Will This New Vehicle Be Good News For Cyclists?

Would you believe that I’m actually excited about a new type of vehicle making its way to the road?  Well, that is if Lit Motors achieves their main goal. Lit Motors Corporation is another one of the companies I found out about through Progressive’s Apron Project.   These guys want to transform the way we think of...

Loving the BITE: Oatmeal Cookie Fuel

July 31, 2014
By

A client recently asked me what I thought about using Oatmeal Cookies for fuel. It happened to be a food he loved, a food he’d look forward to mile after mile, and one he could easily make ahead of time.  It also happened to be a great idea. Unlike most cookies, oatmeal cookies are...

The Smell of a Grenada Ride

July 30, 2014
By

I just got home from my ride, and felt the need to write about the smells I took in today.  Yeah, you heard me right….Smells.  I don’t seem to ever recall a ride where I noticed smells like I did today.  Sure there are times where I’m behind a garbage truck or going past...

Loving the Bike TV: Envision Where You’re Going

July 30, 2014
By

For this week’s episode, I’m leaning towards “loving life ON the bike”.  Most weeks I talk about how little things in life off the bike can help you live happier and chase your dreams.  Well, even though this week’s message focuses on the bike….the same idea can be used in all areas of your...

On Every Ride

Somethings not right. Is my seatpost slipping? I look down, see the tape marking the usual spot, and determine no, it’s not. Is my seat moving backwards? I stand out of the saddle and wiggle the seat a bit. Nope, it’s fine. Are my shoes loose? I tighten them another click, just to make...

Enjoy the Competition. Enjoy Your Ride

Before moving to the Caribbean, one thought that ran through my mind was the idea of possibly learning a new sport or activity that would suit me perfectly.  I was of the belief that maybe there was a sport out there that would come naturally to me.  A sport that wasn’t even offered in North...

Loving the Bike TV: Get FIT. Love LIFE

July 23, 2014

You just have to see the backdrop used for this edition of Loving the Bike TV.  Grenada is not a very big place, and it’s so awesome to see all these people “shaping up for Carnival”.  There has been like 200 people out there every day for the past week.  I Love It. Watch...

Crewing for an Ultracyclist

Crewing for an Ultracyclist

Ultracycling, to me, is the hardest form of the sport. The riders who race in ultracycling events have to battle themselves, both physically and mentally. Not to mention mechanicals, weather and the terrain. Last week I had the privilege to meet someone who is gunning for 100 UMCA records, already with 82 to his...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
