Loving the Bike TV: Live an Adventure

January 21, 2015

I’ve talked many times about doing new things and living outside your comfort zone, and this week I’m reinforcing this suggestion. Last weekend, my boys and I definitely climbed out of our boxes and did something we’ve never done before.  There were challenges, some swearing, and three boys who finished up feeling quite proud...

What is Paradise?

What is Paradise?

Because I live in the Caribbean, I’m often told that I’m living in paradise.  Oh, and having a bicycle tour/rental company along with all of this makes it sound even more paradise-ish.  But what exactly constitutes the creation of paradise? Looking in from the outside, living in a place like this definitely creates the...

Grenada By Bike: Overview

My friend Victor from Bicycle Lab and the Cycling 360 Podcast told me that he’d really like to see some video of what it’s like biking around Grenada.  He’s a wise man (he is a guru after all) so I’m taking his advice and today’s post is the start of our new Grenada By...

Best Job Ever

I’ve had some pretty cool jobs in my time, but nothing can compare to the position of Mountain Bike Tour Guide that I once held….oh, and I should also mention that this job was located on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. Okay, so having a job that puts you on the seat of...

Shannon and I Reminisce Cycling in SKB

It might be a tiny little island, but the Caribbean island of St. Kitts is home to some of the West Indies best cycling. Actually, it’s sister island Nevis is pretty dang good for cycling as well.  The area of the twin-islands is 261 square kilometers (101 square miles), with St. Kitts occupying 168 square kilometers...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
