The Bike is Always Greener….

…On the other side of the road.  Yes, this is a play on one of the most famous proverbs in the World….and I thought the idea would make for a nice Make it Happen Monday post.

Although we all might not fall victim to it, many of us have the tendency to look enviously at the lives of those around us.  Whether it’s a lack of personal satisfaction or an urge to want more, things can often look a whole lot better on the other side of the fence.

I’m not sure about you, but as a cyclist I always seem to be drooling over some of the other bikes I see out there on the road.  Sometimes it’s a hot new bike, or it could be their sweet wheel set that gets me thinking how nice it would be riding on that myself.  Another rider’s speed, technique, bike, kit….all things that can set off the envy fireworks inside of us.

So what do we do….on and off the bike?  Well, like in most situations the words “Gratitude and Attitude” can keep that green vision at bay.  Focus on all the good things you have in your own life, and be thankful for all the goodness that flows.  Don’t take any day, moment, person, experience, or ride for granted. Also remember that “Sometimes the dream and the desire for something are much more appealing than actually getting the thing that you think you want.”

Like we say over here at Loving the Bike….Enjoy Your Ride.

I will enjoy my ride and will also be grateful for what I have.

This is the inside collar of my “Ride the Rockies” jersey. Maybe you’ll find it as fitting for today’s post as I did.

I always like starting off my week with your monday post. I have found myself quite jealous of many of the bikes I see and I’m not sure why I feel that way. I have a good bike that treats me well and that is what matters most. Once again your monday post has reminded me of something important.

Thanks Sarah, it feels great to know we have a part in kicking off your week the right way.

Gratitude and attitude are my words for the day. Well said, Darryl.

Hi Tim….I hope you’re having a great one.

Very well said and I guess after coming back from Interbike it was hard work to stop those feelings exploding all the time. Cycling is a techie/gadget lovers dream, unlike say running. Envy is an age old issue and probably the cause of more problems in history than anything else. Today’s consumer culture certainly doesn’t help when business is focused on sales, growth and marketing.

Like you say, once you get what you dream of, will you be happy?

Life is suffering, but lets try to keep it to suffering as we climb that mountain on our bikes.

BTW, keep forgetting to say.. some of the best words of the week I hear most weeks are these, “It’s a great day for cycling..” always makes me smile.

Hi Karl, thanks for your comments….and also for being a listener of our Cycling 360 podcast. I’m glad you like my usual welcome to the show. I sometimes think people get bored of it, but it’s nice to know that you appreciate it.

Yeah, our culture does make it tough for sure.
