Cycling-World-Cup-2014
Four years ago, I came up with the idea of having people tweet out #CyclingWorldCup if their day included more cycling time than World Cup watching.  Well, the FIFA World Cup 2014 kicks off today from Brazil and I’d like to do it once again.

There’s no debate that Football (Soccer) is the number one watched and played sport in the world, so there is definitely a lot of excited people out there today.  Here in Grenada, Football is huge and everyone will be glued to their televisions.  I’ve got other plans.

As the teams battle it out and the insane football fans rev up their cheering and antics, I’ll be going wild on my bike. As the millions of people around the world, sit in front of their television and cheer on their team…I’ll be sitting on the saddle of my bike.   And as the beautiful sounds of the song We Are One by Pitbull featuring Jennifer Lopez & Claudia Leitte (the official 2014 World Cup anthem) drift across the soccer world, I’ll be listening to my cycling soundtrack on my iPod as I tear up the road.

No disrespect to FIFA or all the World Cup fans out there…..but I’m choosing cycling over the World Cup for each and every one of the 30 days that it takes place.  Are you with me?

I’ve been challenging the people of Twitter with this by having them tag their Tweets with a #CyclingWorldCup if their day included more cycling than World Cup.

You see, if you’re a FIFA fan, you really can do both….but if you’re leaning more towards cycling, then there’s no question you’ll be achieving #CyclingWorldCup status.

Let us hear your comments about why cycling is where it’s at.  To all you Twitter people, let’s see you strongly rocking the #CyclingWorldCup.

I am definitely with you Darryl. I will be watching cycling online and then riding my bicycle. The order is usually determined by the weather. Right now it is cooler in the mornings and the races in europe are available in the morning. When the temperature warms I head out on the road to dance with my steel mistress. Bike Fast / Live Slow… Ride On !

Awesome……keep up the great riding. Yep, great motto: Bike Fast / Live Slow.

Thanks Darryl. Felt tired and slow on today’s ride with 11 – 18 mph winds most of the way. With about 15 miles to go, started feeling better and finished feeling good. Needed to make it a shorter ride as I still had to mow the grass. I’m hoping for a longer ride with some hills tomorrow. Ride on buddy.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
