20 Chicago Type Photos
As a writer and designer, letters and words are a large part of my life — beyond what we all use in our daily life. I use words to tell a story, to evoke emotion, and to compel an action.
So too do street artists whose work I see throughout the city. I’m fascinated by these letterforms and words I find, there but for a brief moment in time.
I often wonder why people take time to put these words out there. What do they mean to that person? Their art is for all to see, but in a way, I can’t help but feel like I’m intruding on a private moment. Some of these expressions are hurried, some are elaborate; some are silly and seem frivolous, and others are politically motivated. But all give us a glimpse into our culture.
I have hundreds of these type-related ride pics from all over the city. Today, I’m posting a few of my favorites below. Most of these are no longer there, so I’m happy I have these photos.
Epic photos!
thank you 🙂
Really great post and pictures (as usual). I LOVE the picture of “at some point there are no are second chances”. W
thanks Eric. sometimes these fleeting images capture something huge that really resonate with us
A glimpse into our culture indeed. I have seen some street art and found myself wondering; ‘just who the hell do I share this planet with?’ LOL.
These were great pics. I love seeing anything with an uplifting or positive tone in a rural area. and yea I always wonder about the emotion behind the more serious or private type. But like I commented to Darryl’s post just the other day, although this stuff is out there for all to see it really wasn’t meant for everyone but hopefully those that it was meant for will understand everything it stands for. I hope that made sense, I am on cold medicine…
Thanks for the look at Chicago through your lens-
you’re welcome Daniel. I love riding and finding these. I’m always making my riding mates stop while I shoot; often they have never even seen what I have until we circle around 🙂
