2017 Canada Cycling Event Tour

I’ve written about cycling in so many different parts of the world, but I’ve never really wrote about riding a bike in my home country of Canada. Now it’s time.

Due to our weather in Canada, we have to jam pack a whole bunch of cycling events into just a few months….making the schedule of activities quite overwhelming if you were wanting to do a cross country cycling event tour.

But have no fear, this vast country of Canada can be conquered with the right planning….and one can successfully take in all of the best cycling events Canada has to offer.

Kick off the Canada cycling tour on the east coast, by taking part in the Grand Fondo Mont Tremblant. This Quebec cycling event takes place on May 27 and offers distances of 160 km, 125 km, 80 km or 45 km…..plus some incredible panoramic views and beautiful windy cycling roads.

Following the fondo, stick around Quebec and enjoy cycling in other areas of the Province so that you can be in Saguenay for the Grand Prix Cycliste de Saguenay. This four day race starts on June 8 and features international competitors and teams…..and provides a great opportunity for excellent cycling action. If you’re up for it, you can even place a bet on your favorite biker.

From there, the journey continues in the central part of Canada for the Grand Fondo Badlands in Alberta. This June 24 event begins under the world’s largest dinosaur in Drumheller. Choose from a variety of route options and ride along some prehistoric terrain.

For the month of July, you can spend time cycling around the west coast of Canada. From the rocky mountains of Alberta to the forests and ocean of British Columbia, there are so many great routes and options to choose from.

You’ll want to be in Victoria, British Columbia for the cycling event held by pro cyclist Ryder Hesjedal. His Tour de Victoria takes place on August 20, 2017. Here’s what Ryder has to say about the event,

“The Tour de Victoria is always a highlight of my cycling season.  The routes are challenging, scenic, and exciting – you are all going to love it.  Thanks to everyone who has supported the event over the past four years in one way or another.  I hope to see you there.”

Ryder’s event is held in an amazing part of Canada and offers incredible views and landscape. A great way to spend one of your August days.

Canada is a huge country with a variety of landscapes and cultures. Taking part in just a few of many cycling events offered around the country will allow you to see and experience so much Canada has to offer.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
