Planning and going on a bike trip can be one of the most adventurous and fun experiences of your lifetime. You can experience the area you’re in in a completely different way. However, it isn’t always smooth sailing. This guide will give you some great tips on surviving your first bike trip.

Pick A Date

Pick a date for your bike trip and then start planning. Make sure you give yourself enough time to plan. In some cases, it won’t take you very long at all. You just need to know where you’re going and have everything you need to keep you going. It might take a day, a week, or a month. Picking a date will keep you focused, so make sure you do it.

Save Up What You Think You Need

You can travel on your bike for next to nothing, but it’ll still help if you save up what you think you need. Having some money behind you will help you in case of emergencies, as well as when it comes to buying food and finding a place to stay. In many places you may be able to survive on very little, such as South East Asia. However, it all depends on where you’re going.

Choose A Reliable Bike And Any Other Equipment

You’re going to need a reliable bike for your first bike trip, so make sure you take your time choosing the right one. You might want to buy new, second hand, or rent one. Read reviews and test them out so you get it right. You may also need a backpack, sleeping bag, map of the area, and things like that to help you. Make sure you don’t forget anything!

Pick Your Direction And Route

Pick your route and the direction you intend to go in. This is fun, and really easy!

Have Emergency Items Ready

As you’re in control of your own transport, you should have some emergency items ready, just incase. This may include a small first aid kit, helmet, and other safety items. You should also do research before you go, with the help of things like survival boards. You can learn a lot from them.

Consider Booking With A Bike Tour Company

If you don’t want to go it alone your first time, consider booking with a bike tour company to help you. They’ll help you book, give you a route, and you’ll even be able to travel with other like minded bikers. You’ll make friends and have company as you go!

Practice Lots In Advance

If you’re not currently as fit and healthy as you’d like, make sure you practice a lot in advance. You need to be comfortable on a bike and be able to endure long distances. You can’t expect to start with no practice!

This guide will help you when you’re planning your first bike trip, so make sure you take the tips to have the best time. Biking is a whole new way to experience a new place; something everybody should do at least once!

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
