31 Day Do Good Challenge: Day 29

Do Good Challenge Loving the Bike

If you followed Rob Greenfield’s ride for sustainability last summer, you would have seen the extreme side of water conservation.  During his 104 days of cycling across the United States, Rob used just 160 gallons of water…the average American uses 80 to 100 gallons per day.

So where did the 160 gallons of water come from?

  • 60 gallons straight from Lakes, rivers, streams, and rain
  • 6 gallons from wells powered by hand pump or windmill
  • 14 from wells powered by electricity
  • 50 gallons diverted from waste
  • 30 from the grid

Yeah, this is pretty extreme…..and will make today’s challenge seem so much easier.  You can read more about Rob’s water consumption during that right, right here: http://blog.greenfieldadventures.org/water-how-i-cycled-4700-miles-using-only-160-gallons/#more-754

Day 29: Conserve water today.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
