5 Things to do With Your Road ID in the Off-Season

I’ve been wearing a Road ID on my wrist for about the past 5 years.  Luckily I’ve never needed any medical staff to make use of it, but I like having it there.  To be honest, I dig it for other reasons than what it would provide for me if I was hurt on the ride.

Road ID

I thought it would be cool to list off 5 things for Road ID in the off-season.  If you’re not out there cycling your local roads during the winter months, here’s my list of what your Road ID can still do for you.

  1. A daily reminder of who the most important people are in your life.  If you’re like me, you’ve provided those closest to you as your emergency contacts.
  2. Style.  Plastic jewelry is like the most stylish option in my opinion.  Gold, Silver, and the like might make you feel like you’re cool….but rubber and plastic totally makes you hardcore cool.
  3. Games.  If you wear one of the Road ID necklaces, try grabbing it and throwing it so the necklace spins around your neck.  See how many times you can make it around.  Yeah, a great little game to keep you entertained while waiting to get back on the road.
  4. Clean.  Do you wear your Road ID bracelet day in and day out?  It’s probably gotten quite gunked up inside the clasps.  Take it off and use your extra time to clean it up.
  5. Inspiration.  Hang it on your wall and look at it every day.  While staring at it, envision how awesome you’re going to perform on the bike next season.  Visualize all your goals and see yourself achieving them.

As a fair-weather cyclist, it’s my off-season right now. I think wearing a Road ID during the cold weather would be an awesome motivator to get in better shape so that I’m ready to ride strong when the fair weather returns!

Wearing your RoadId in the off season reminds you to take care of yourself and make good decisions. Additionally, no one immune to heart attacks, seizures, choking etc. Wearing your RoadID all the time provides first responders with critical information immediately.

I wear mine every day, including the off season, when I take my dog out to poop. He’s really strong, and a total jerk who wants to kill every animal he sees. I wear my road ID so I don’t need to bring a wallet (he jerks me around a lot; cant have it falling out of my pocket!) or in case he manages to run me into a tree and I pass out.

This probably sounds like I’m trolling you but I am being 100% honest here!

    Sincerely,
    @echointhecity

I live in Austin, there is no off season! Only off days, I need a road id because I’m always riding!

All fabulous ideas…but what is this “off-season” you speak of?…

Unfortunately, I don’t have a roadID, yet. Why would you take it off? It can be handy in other situations, not just on the bike.
One Question, What is an “off season”?

I wear my Road ID necklace every day no matter where I go or what I’m doing.
You never know when something may happen. I even have a bracelet Road ID on my bike in the event I get separated from my bike and in case my necklace falls off in a crash.
Love it and never leave home without it.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
