A Day Ride in Amsterdam
We all know that The Netherlands is like the cycling capital of the world, right? How many of you have spent some time in this beautiful bicycle cultured country? Well, if you’re anything like me then you’ve definitely got this place on your wish list for a cycling vacation.
Although I am a road cyclist, my feelings are that when I go riding in Amsterdam it’s got to be on a city bike. Yeah, I want to experience the full on culture and lifestyle of riding through a city like Amsterdam.
Okay, so how would I spend one day in the most bike-friendly city in the world? Well, to be honest, I would start off by just jumping into the action and following the flow of bike traffic. I’d let them start me off and just go whatever direction they take me. For me, just being in the Amsterdam bicycle vibe would be the highlight of a day riding the city.
But I’d also want to get some sightseeing in as well. It’s Amsterdam, right so I’d have to stop in at a couple of their famous “coffeeshops”. Yeah, you know the ones that sell soft drugs….not coffee. It would be interesting to see products like Royal Queen Seeds being sold right there in a store.
As a lover of water, I’d also want to spend a lot of time riding over the bridges and along the canals of Amsterdam. Criss-crossing bridges and winding my way along the 165 canals that encircle the city would be absolutely amazing.
The museums of Amsterdam are super famous, so checking out a few of these would be on the must do list as well. Along with that, I’d want to take in as much local street food as possible. Hanging out right there on the streets, meeting locals, eating local, and riding local is what the experience would all be about.
Finally, at the end of the day I would want to make my way just outside of Amsterdam and ride the famous solar bike path found in Krommenie.
One glorious day of riding in the most bike-friendly city in the world. How would you spend one day in Amsterdam?
That really looks like a nice place!!
