Celebrity Cyclists

Back when Lance Armstrong was the king of cycling and won the Tour de France seven times in a row, riding road bikes became cool in the eyes of Hollywood.  We all know how things went for Lance, but his influence has created a huge amount of celebrity cyclists.

During his era many celebrities jumped on board befriending the now notorious Armstrong such as Jake Gyllenhaal and Matthew McConaughey where they bonded over bicycles and brunch.

These days cycling is seen not only as a way to stay in great shape, but also as a way to reduce your carbon footprint in the world. Celebrities are huge on taking a stance to help look after the planet such as Leonardo DiCaprio (Director of the documentary “The 11th Hour”) who loves cycling.

There are a ton of celebrity fans of cycling these days who see it as a great way to stay fit and healthy and breathe in some fresh air.

This list includes:

1. Jennifer Aniston

At the tender age of 19, before Jennifer Aniston was known to the world as Rachel on ‘Friends’, she was actually a New York bike messenger. Out of all the work she participated in she claims that this was her “toughest job”. Although tough, at least it instilled in her a passion for cycling and still cycles regularly which probably lends a great hand to her more than perfect figure.

2. Hugh Jackman

X-Men became a whole lot sexier when we were introduced to Wolverine. Hugh Jackman portrays him exquisitely and has the body for it! Hugh is very well known for cycling and has been spotted in cities around the globe such as New York and London and even on movie sets. With his broad smile we’d hop on a bicycle and follow him anywhere!

3. Pink (Alecia Moore)

This feisty lady is known for her powerful tunes and “don’t mess with me” attitude. She is also very well known for her incredibly toned body and concerts where she performs acrobatic acts. This disciplined, hard-working mom-of-two, cycles for exercise with her family and even uses her bicycle when running errands. She’s even been spotted on a pink bicycle, no doubt very appropriately chosen for its color!

4. George Clooney

George Clooney, the original “ER” television doctor broke the hearts of millions when he married London lawyer Amal Alamuddin. He actually has a house at Lake Como, Italy, ironically, the same place that Lance Armstrong lived when he was training for the Tour de France. He regularly cycles on his mountain bike and has even attracted the paparazzi for a bike ride with the amazing U2 lead singer Bono, who also loves cycling, around the Irish countryside.

As it is with cycling, we know that we need a ton of energy to pedal those bikes, often for hours on end, especially if competing. Even spending a long day along the countryside in France exploring the terrain requires a lot of energy.

According to WebMD, cyclists, may be able to ride farther and faster if they take supplements containing the amino acid L-arginine as well as antioxidants that help boost the body’s natural exercise capabilities. We found some great products that can give your body what it needs to be a cycling champ. Check out this Research Verified review for a product that contains L-Arginine which is great for boosting nitric oxide levels in the blood which allows for increased endurance and faster recovery rates post workout – Research Verified Nitric Oxide. Also, check out their top quality Moringa detox product which is packed with antioxidants for optimal health benefits and positive well-being.

Never mind the celebrities. Cycling is a great way for you to get into great shape, get around without worrying about traffic and be kinder to the planet. Anyway, if celebrities are doing it and look amazingly fit you can too – all you need do is take yourself to the nearest bicycle shop.

Enjoy Your Ride

I’ve actually had the pleasure meeting a cycling celebrity once – YOU! 🙂 Hope Canada’s treating y’all well. A bit warm these days in ATX for anything other than early morning or evening cycling.

Hahahaha, thanks Paul. It was a great pleasure to sit and hang with you the last time I was in Austin. I really want to get back there again, and hope we can do so again.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
