Contest Time: How Old Are These Cyclists?

16

2010

Tomorrow morning I’ll be turning 41 years old.  Yikes, I really don’t like saying that out loud, and to be honest I really don’t believe it.  But that’s how old my Mom says I am so I guess I have to go with it.  I’ve often been told that I look so much younger than I am so in honor of that fact, Loving the Bike is putting on a “How Old Are These Cyclists?” contest.

Mr. Loving the Bike turns 41

The following cyclists look so darn good for their age and we know that cycling just had to play a part in that, right?  Have a look at the photos and let us know how old they look (don’t add on a few years to your guess just because we’re telling you that they look younger than they actually are).

How to Win:

  • Simply leave a comment below with your guesses (Click the photo for a larger image)
  • In your comment, place your guess with the corresponding letter (eg: A 31, B 29, C 40…..etc)
  • Include your Name, E-mail, and Website (if you have one) in the appropriate spots on the comments form
  • That’s it

Prize:

The person who’s overall guesses are closest to the right answers will win a Loving the Bike Prize Pack including gifts from Nuun and Bike Poncho, as well as a Loving the Bike T-shirt.  Good luck. Guesses will be taken up until 4:00PM this Saturday, June 19th.

Looking So Good:

The contest went awesome and now that it’s over we’d like to reveal the actual ages of these great cyclists.  Each of them looks so incredible for no matter what age they happen to be.  We know that in person, their personalities are able to shine through and make them even that much more youthful.

A. Charlie Hopkins: Anderson, IN (www.screamingmonkeybike.blogspot.com) Age: 50

B. Mari-jo Lamarche: Mont-Tremblant, QC (www.marijolamarche.wordpress.com ;  @marijolamarche)  Age: 40

C. Heather A. Herric: Austin, TX (www.windypossibilities.blogspot.com ; @heatherhe)  Age: 32

D. Jerry Carson: Reno, NV  Age: 73 (and still touring)

E. Carrie Grey-Stewart: Burlington, ON (www.ckgbooks.com) Age: 49

F. Tim Starry: Austin, TX (www.oldguy2wheels.wordpress.com ; @T_Starry)  Age:  54

G. Chris Christie: Saskatoon, SK  Age: 49

BonusRichard Masoner: Santa Cruz, CA (www.cyclelicio.us; @cyclelicious) It’s a bonus question because he only gave us a general idea of how old he actually is and not his real age.  If you know his real age, you get bonus points.

Thanks to all of these great cyclists for letting me use them in this contest.  Looking young, young at heart, and great people.

Okay, let the guessing begin…

Enjoy Your Ride

  6. James on June 17, 2010 at 1:36 pm

Hmmm…I am not going to venture a guess on all those, but I do seem to remember that Richard is a little less than 4 years older than me.

I hope that you are having a great birthday, Darryl! I am right behind you…turning 41 next week.

    • Darryl on June 17, 2010 at 2:23 pm

Thanks for providing a clue on Richard’s age. Now if people are able to find out your age, they can get that one right. Thanks for stopping by, James.

I’m not about to start guessing ages. I’m however sold on the fact that cycling can keep you looking younger. I like Clive also believe even more so that cycling can make you feel young. I have a 70+ year old cyclist in my neighborhood. He is always out there on the bike and blowing by even the youngest of cyclists. Hope you have an amazing birthday today!!

Age is just a number – I believe that. You know what, Mr. almost 41, you’re like Benjamin Button cause in these past eleven years you just keep growing younger and younger and you passion for life, love and happiness just keeps abounding. Can’t wait to see what another 11 years will add to your life – we’ll probably have to enroll you in Junior High.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY – and whatever you do, don’t act your age:-)

Thanks for your guesses. These are all great people, I don’t think any of them will be offended with a “wrong” guess. Cheers.

  20. Clive Chapman on June 16, 2010 at 7:03 am

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Darryl, but don’t get me guessing ages, I’m notoriously bad at it. So I’ll just say those folk look great no matter how old they are. It doesn’t matter actual age really though does it. What matters is how young they feel!

    Cheers

    Clive

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
