What Are You On?
You just knew it was coming, didn’t you? A new blogger on the cycling scene…pretty good chance he’s a Lance Armstrong fan like so many others. Might have even caught that snippet of the “Lance Shrine” in that video blog last week. Well you’re right, no surprise at all…I’m just another one of those Lance loving cyclists, and here it comes. The Lance Blog.
Back when I used to be more into the hardcore gym scene, there were always hidden accusations about people being on steroids. Anytime a guy looked good, gained some muscle, or changed in appearance…the “S” word always came out. My opinion of the whole thing was that people were innocent unless they self admitted their guilt. I thought, “Why criticize a guy for gaining a hard body through some serious hard work?”
But then there were the times where a steroid user would hide their secret and bask in the praises of their peers…taking pride in the facade they had created.
It became…and still is…a question of who is and who isn’t on it. Today, my opinion is still the same, but what I would add is this…”If you’re taking illegal performance enhancing drugs, admit it.” Be honest. Take the guessing out of it, so that the legal guys can take their credit without the accusations.
One of my life heroes, Lance Armstrong, lived his career amongst constant allegations. Always being told that he just has to be on something to be as good as he is. They tried, and they tried, and they tried some more….but after 7 Tour de France titles, they couldn’t find anything on him.
I’ve worked out a few times at the 24 Hour Fitness located in Austin, Texas (South location). They use Lance Armstrong as their spokesperson and for their advertising material. Inside the gym there is a huge quote on the wall by Lance and when I saw it, I smiled and knew that it would stick with me for a very long time.
This is my body, and I can do whatever I want to it. I can push it. Study it. Tweak it. Listen to it. Everybody wants to know what I’m on. What am I on? I’m on my bike busting my ass six hours a day. What are you on?
A perfect response for any of us who have ever been accused of doing something we know just wasn’t true. I hear you Lance. I love that quote. To all you accusers….What are you on?
Great post, Darryl, very timely too!
I Love doing my hiit routine in the morning . It gives me energy throughout the day. If my workouts were highly intense, I feel great all day long. Supplements are not really necessary with the proper bodybuilding exercise , really good nutrition program and the proper rest.
Thank you for your help!
I am always searching online for articles that can help me. Thank you
That quote has been embedded on my memory since the “Rays of Wisdom” days when you first used it and I just love it man. Sometimes when I’m hiking and I get the urge to call it a day, I remember that quote and it really gets the juices flowing.
Bryan I so agree with you- There are always those who are too busy NOT focusing on their own lives that will have enough time and energy to focus on someone else’s. I say “smile and let ’em” Then you can feel good about focusing on you and giving those who lack the will to focus on themselves something to do.
What am I on? I’m on a rock and I’ve got miles more to go!! 🙂
I think people that claim Lance has juiced AFTER his cancer have, obviously, never been on deaths doorstep. To risk more cancer by taking steroids….it just didn’t happen!!!!
That is a great quote.
Doesn’t matter what’s been said, tested, or done; there will always be naysayers and haters in every aspect of life.
