Whether you haven’t been on a bike of any sort since you were a kid or fancy yourself as a budding Tour de France champ, a mountain biking holiday is great for fitness, fun and finding out about a new place. Package holidays to Egypt offer a great opportunity for anyone and everyone to enjoy an experience they’ll never forget. Here are just some of the plus points of a mountain biking holiday in Egypt.

Burn off stress

Any form of exercise is a distraction from everyday frustrations and challenges. That’s one reason why people often leave exercise sessions feeling much more positive and recharged. Mountain biking in Egypt not only has all the benefits of exercise but adds the pleasure of outstanding scenery, some of which you will only be able to see on a bike trip. It’s OK if you’re not even remotely fit, you can go at your own pace or take a group tour where the guides will make sure that abilities are matched and everyone is looked after.

Get fit (or fitter!)

London 2012 and Glasgow 2014 really pushed forward the message about the importance of exercise. For mountain biking, it’s OK if you’re just starting to work on your fitness. Unlike running or other high-impact sports, cycling is relatively easy on the joints and has none of the sharp twists and turns of other sports such as football or tennis. Nobody expects beginners to cycle like Chris Hoy or Victoria Pendleton, you can go as gently as you want. Of course, if you are up for a challenge then there’s plenty of excitement on offer.

Mountain biking is perfect for individuals, couples, families and groups

Whether you want to explore the area in ones and twos, take the kids for an amazing trip they’ll remember all their lives or see the amazing sights of Egypt in the company of new friends, there’s an option for you. Even the youngest children can enjoy the fun with child seats and trailers and there are trails suitable for little legs too. Adults can either take in the route at a leisurely pace or opt for a higher-intensity workout, seeing even more of the incredible scenery along the way. If you’re out to meet new friends, cycling is a great way to do it with everyone having the chance to chat and get to know each other along the way and, of course, there are always rest, meal and photo breaks, which are a perfect opportunity to get to know your companions better.

It’s the perfect was to get to know the local area

Egypt is renowned for its natural beauty and, in particular, the area around Sharm el Sheikh is recognized as being home to some of the most breathtaking scenery in Africa, indeed in the world. The Nabq desert will captivate you as you travel, safely, through it in the company of local guides. You’ll not only have the chance to appreciate its natural splendour, but also to understand it. If you like, you can learn all about the unique animals and plants which make their home in this captivating environment. You can also spend time with local bedouins. A mountain bike trip allows you to get well away from the tourist traps and into the real Egypt, the real Sharm el Sheikh.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
