He Who Hesitates is a Damned Fool

I’d have to try really hard to find some sort of connection between the legendary actress, May West, and cycling….but because I love this quote of hers so much I’m going to do my best to make it happen.  (Oh, and I’ve decided to take off the “Make it Happen Monday” part off the title.  By now you should all know that Monday’s post is always a motivational one to kick off your week).

It’s such a simple quote, but it is also very powerful and just seems to hit me right between the eyes.  The message really applies to anything in life, but I wanted to use it today in two different cycling scenarios:

Hesitation #1 – If you’ve been thinking of starting up a fitness program using the bike as your source of cardio, but haven’t yet begun….what are you waiting for?  Anyone living on this side of the World currently has some sweet summer weather conditions and it’s the perfect time to jump on a bike and get your body in motion.  The weather is beautiful and the roads are just waiting for your two wheels to roll down them.  “He who hesitates is a damned fool”.

Hesitation #2 – This one’s for all our followers who race at any type of level.  When you’re out on the road competing against your fellow riders, the time is going to come when you get the feeling of attacking.  When that moment overcomes you….strike.  Don’t think about it or wait for the feeling to sink in.  Grind those gears and make it happen.  “He who hesitates is a damned fool”.

Enjoy Your Ride

Especially if you don’t un-clip before you come to a complete stop…I like this most about you Darryl, the “Go For It” mentality, it’s some good tasting koolade!

I agree with this quote. If you want to get results you need to act on them.

And on that note I am off for a ride. No hesitation here.

Hesistation #3- If you are laying in bed not wanting to go to work (me), smile and think about the bike ride you will do this evening. 😉

Thanks for the motivation Darryl! I better get to work!

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
