Make it Happen Monday: Families

Each and every day….all around the world…..Families are in motion.  It honestly amazes me how on a daily basis a Family can get themselves ready, get the kids off to school or events, the Parents to work…..all the while never missing a beat.  Even when some sort of scheduling conflict comes up, all the duties get performed.  What amazes me even more is that this continues on for at least 14 or 15 years.

If you were to sit back and think about it, you might feel it is impossible to believe that for the next 15 years you will be able to execute all the tasks that come with being a Family…..but we don’t think about it.  We just keep on doing what we’re doing and it all just falls into place.

The reason it works is because you know it has to work.  There are no other options so you can’t talk yourself out of accomplishing these goals.  You also get help.  Help from your other Family members, and at times you also get help from Family and Friends.  Each Family has their style, but it all gets the same results.

If people around this world can consistently make this happen, what’s stopping us from achieving any other goals we put our minds to?  Nothing.  Take the same approach as a Family.  Don’t look at the big picture, just do what needs to be done today.  Don’t go after it alone…..get help when you need it.

Anything can be done.  It happens every day.  The human spirit is unstoppable if it is used correctly.  Here’s to the Families that are already doing it.  Take a minute and give yourself credit for all you have achieved in your Family.  Good work.

Enjoy Your Ride

Nice post, Darryl, but I have to disagree w/ one important sentiment:
“Take the same approach as a Family.  Don’t look at the big picture, just do what needs to be done today.”

You *HAVE* to keep an eye on the big picture.  If you don’t at least check in with your target, your goal, your objective, you will end up founding about lost and woefully off-course.  Too often, people live in the moment and forget the big picture. Especially when it comes to finances.  They end up not being able to do the things they want in the long-term (send a kid to college, retire at age 60, whatever) because they didn’t check in on their long-term goals.

But you are right – don’t miss the moments of life right in front of you!

You’re absolutely right, Bob.  I might not have worded that properly….you should definitely have long term goals, but on a day to day basis do the things each day that will lead you to your goal.  Thanks for writing in.

This is a good lesson to teach our children too. I’m a firm believer in keeping babies and young toddlers on schedules. I think they thrive on routine. They need boundaries. Even with my almost 8 year old, I see this mentality shaping his academic work, his mindset, his personality. And it’s all good.

But it can’t come at the expense of accepting change. Adults and children (including my “I-don’t-like-change” son) need to learn to adapt to change, that it is okay, that they will be okay. Families change. Circumstances change. Schedules change. Living arrangements change. Life changes. And it’s hard sometimes. And yes, it’d be easier if we saw the big picture and knew what it would take to get there. Of course, it’d be awesome if our expectations held firm and we didn’t veer from the path we knew. But you’re right, sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

When stressed out, overwhelmed and scared to keep dreaming that dream, just take “one day at a time” and do your best. Focus on that first step. Then the next one. Until you realize it can be done. I think this can be applied to both the week’s homework assignments, as well as that 50 year plan I’m dreaming about….

And with that mentality – that mantra – adults and kids learn to continue working hard and just go….

You’re right, Kelly…..the daily routine is always changing….whether it’s planned or now.  It really is amazing how Families are able to adapt and keep on making it happen each and every day.

      Thanks for your great comments.

I’m glad as well…thanks for taking the time out of your busy morning Family routine to read today’s post.  You are definitely one of those people firing on all cylinders…..and totally Making it Happen.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
