Make it Happen Monday: Money Fame Power Lifestyle

I feel there are four main ways to categorize how people are motivated…Money, Power, Fame, and Lifestyle.  There are others, (home security, location, respect, etc) but in my opinion these are the big ones.  Based on these motivational catalysts, we make our choices and move forward along our journey….all the while feeding this inherent need.

Neither of these sources of motivation are wrong or right, it’s just another one of those things that makes each of us unique.  We may not understand why others are fuelled by the things they are, but the focus should be placed on what personally lights our fire and to make choices based on this motivator.

These motivators also apply to the various aspects of our lives as well.  Take cycling for example.  We all love it and wish for it to be a very big part of our lives, right?  But which of these motivators play the main role in your riding?  Are you fired up to be the greatest cyclist of all time….to own thousands of dollars worth of beautiful bikes…..or simply to have all the time in the world to be out there riding?  Maybe it’s a combination of many things, but at the heart of it there is one core motivation towards your cycling that you’re consumed with.  Are you aligning things in the other areas of your life in order to feed your cycling motivator?

It’s probably no surprise that I fall heavily into the Lifestyle category.  Creating my own Lifestyle and living by my terms is worth Billions of dollars to me.  I can honestly say that this is what absolutely matters most to me and I do what I can to achieve this.  The lifestyle I choose does come with its stresses, but chasing after the ideal scenario is what keeps me going.

How about you?  What is your source of motivation?  What are you doing to ensure that you stay on this track and bring as much of it into your life as possible?

I guess I never really thought about what motivates me…Survival comes to mind.  Growing up it was strongly suggested I not rock the boat, so I imposed limitations on myself to keep the waters calm.  The less waves I made, the less likely it was for me to be forcibly persuaded to plot a different course.  I ignored any potential others saw in me and sabotaged myself anytime I started to feel I was exceeding anyones expectations.  Do only what’s necessary to get by….that was my mantra.

My how that story has changed…Survival, again playing a key role in motivation, I finally listened to what my wife, doctor, surgeon and friends where telling me, I started exercising.  The bicycle was the method I chose and brother not a day goes by I don’t rejoice in that decision.  Now I am motivated to complete my training to participate in the Ride The Rockies event this June.  Beyond that, I am motivated to help others realize the massive potential they have within themselves by offering my undying support.

I guess when it comes down to it, riding a bicycle is my primary source of motivation.  When I started I didn’t think I’d be able to ride to the end of the block and back, now I feel like I can move mountains…

    Happy Riding…

No kidding your story has changed.  I’m so glad that you are now one of those who is a leader and not a follower….and best of all, you’re pushing on fantastic message.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
