I Am a Cyclist of the World

I recently posted about how I (as a Canadian living in the United States) celebrated the Fourth of July on and off my bike.  Along with having a great Independence Day ride, our Family spent some time at the local celebration going on in our neighborhood.  Most of the people around here know that we’re from Canada so I was asked many times about how (and why) we were celebrating this special American holiday.

I hadn’t really thought about it before, but the response that came out of my mouth each time was, “I’m a child of the World”.  Sure, I’m a Canadian and am proud to be a part of that Country….but I honestly feel more like a citizen of the World than any one Country.

When we lived in St. Kitts, I totally soaked up its culture, traditions, and patriotism.  Now that we’re here in the United States, I’m on board and happy to honor the way of life here as well….and as a bonus we also get to acknowledge and celebrate any Canadian holidays as well.

The Olympics just wrapped up once again earlier this month and each time they occur a strange, but interesting, notion comes to me.  I see how it brings a Country together and as everyone cheers on their Country, there is a solid bond of togetherness and peace.  I find these “united” vibes to be my favorite thing about the Olympics, but it gets me to thinking about how cool it would be if the World were competing against another planet or something else.  Yeah, my thought process can be a little whack at times.

But if there were such a competition, man it sure would be cool to see the entire World coming together and be part of the same team.  If ever there was a way to create World Peace…..this would be it.

Not only am I a child of the World, I’m a cyclist of the World….and so proud to be a part of our Worldwide community of Cyclists.  Like they say over at #bikeschool: World Cyclists Unite.  We’re all connected by a love for cycling, and that commonality brings us closer and creates bonds that bridge thousands of miles.

No matter where you’re located, let’s make it happen….together.

1 Love

Enjoy Your Ride

The beauty of the internet has brought so many of us closer together. I have met so many wonderful friends from all over the world. I love the idea of an interplanetary olympics. If anything can make people forget thier differences and unite as one, that would be it. Now, where do I sign up for the first ever Le Tour de Mars?

There are good things and not so good things to be said of the internet and social media, but without it I never would have met up with a great guy like you and your family. When we take on Mars, I want to be on your team.

I, for one, welcome our Canadian/Neptunion overlords, and challenge them to a tentacle fight to the mirth.

Your world competition idea is an interesting thought and it makes me wonder what it would have the potential to do for all our worldly problems and struggles.

Yeah, it would be neat to see what the ramifications would be of something like that wouldn’t it?

I live here in the United States but often feel that the world is my home. Maybe it is due to the travels I’ve taken or just the way I think about it all. Well said in this post, Darryl.

    • Darryl is Loving the Bike on August 27, 2012 at 1:22 pm

Yeah, I’m not sure if it’s the traveling that does it or something else….but it’s a good attitude to have.

I watched during the Olympics how people gathered together and cheered our national heros. I agree that it would be nice to see contries coming together to band together and cheer together. Thank you for another Monday post that sets me off on the right foot.

I should have included that in the post…I often saw people gather together to watch their Country perform and it was such a cool sight to see.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
