My Favorite Cycling Blogs

As we finish our week of Loving the Bike product reviews, I thought I would steer away from physical products and talk about a few of the cycling blogs that I personally love.  I hope you enjoyed the other cycling product reviews that made up each day this week…..and be sure to let me know if you have questions about any of the products.

Okay, so if you’ve ever wondered which cycling blogs I follow and enjoy…..now’s the time for me to fill you in.  As I’ve said many times, I have full respect for anyone who runs a cycling blog or website and each one has something good to offer.  If you want to find one that speaks to you, be sure to look through our World Cycling Blog Directory at www.cranklisted.com.

Darryl’s Cycling Blog List

Ocean Air Cycles – Rob has moved into mostly blogging about his product line, but still puts up the most incredible cycling photos you’ll ever see.  If for no other reason, you should check out the pictures that he puts up.  Quite often, Rob will also post about his morning coffee ride to the beach.  Yes, he actually brews his own coffee right on the beach and it’s magnificent.

Texas Mountain Bike Trails – I may not be a true mountain biker, but I always enjoy seeing what Shawn has up on his site. He puts in more time and effort into his posts than pretty much any other blogger I know.  Seriously….his videos, pictures, and content have a whole lot of thought put into it.  Shawn has told me that he might be changing the focus of his site in the near future…but whichever direction he goes, I’ll follow.

Cyclelicious – In my opinion, Richard is the king of the lifestyle cycling blog.  He’s been doing it like forever, and he’s consistently got his finger on what’s happening within the bicycle lifestyle segment of the world.  Richard personally lives the bicycle lifestyle and really knows his stuff.  I have found myself going to him on countless occasions to get his point of view on many bike related issues.

The Urban Country – James calls his site a bicycle transportation blog and it’s because he believes it’s the best way to get around.  He has several posts showing how a bike can be used for any and all situations and is always encouraging people to consider the bike.  I think that is cool.  I can’t remember what first attracted me to this blog, but it’s one that I consistently follow up on and read about what James has to say.

Enjoy Your Ride

Thanks Darryl, I enjoyed the blog this week. Keep up the good work. Greetings from an overcast and windy northern Germany

If you want to try a fun but serious comic blog try Bikeyface.com Bekka has a very comical way of getting to the point.

Thanks Raymond. Bikeyface was actually on my honorable mention list. I love her stuff and almost included her in this post, but didn’t at the last minute. There are way too many good cycling blogs to include them all so I decided I would just stick to my top 4 go to choices.

I’ve read all of these at one point or another. I actually found out about a couple of them through you in the past. Thank you as well for what you do for cycling.

I follow cyclicious but not those other ones. I’ll have a take a look. It nice to see a cycling blogger featuring other blogs in the industry. Well done.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
