Riding Interstate

As I mentioned last week, after doing the Interstate event I was exhausted, and not quite ready to process how the three days of riding unfolded. I was finally able to sit and write my account of the weekend. Day 1: Kota Damansara – Fraser Hill The first day of Interstate found me ambivalent...

Right Now – Because YOU Matter

I am honored beyond belief to share this amazing #MakeitHappen story by my friend (and Loving the Bike Army General), Eric Hutchins.  All I did was ask if he’d write a post about how the song “Right Now” changed his life, and what I got in response was this incredibly emotional and inspiring story. Right...

Loving the BITE: Easy Peach Honey Jam for Best Ever PB & J

This is the best PB & J you’ll ever eat…really.  Well, maybe it’s not exactly a PB & J, if you want to get technical about it.  It’s more of a CB & J.  Intrigued? If you like minerals that support good, steady energy levels in your body, real, whole food carbohydrates rather than processed...

Over the weekend, Rob Greenfield found himself on the front page headliner of USA Today’s online news section, and was the top listed story at the Detroit Free Press. Interstate at a Glance

Riding in Malaysia is an amazing thing. If you’re a serious cyclist and can ever make it out this way, please do. The possible terrain you can ride in a single day can’t be topped, between high mountain climbs, miles of fast downhills and ocean side flats, you’ll never for want of a better...

Don’t Vacation…Travel. #MakeitHappen

I’ve never called myself a vacationer, even though I’ve taken holidays all over the world.  To me, a get-away is not a chance to fall into the customized tourist trap….it’s the spirit of adventure.  I call it traveling, and this is so much different from taking a vacation. When I was younger I wrote...

Biker’s Nausea: Tips to Avoid Tossing Your Cookies on the Trail  by Tiffany Hanrahan Mountain biking is an extreme sport; it’s not for the faint of heart or the easily-upset stomach. It’s extremely fun, but the ride is a bit bumpy, and riders are known to get tossed from their bikes as well as...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
