It might be hard to combine something like the STORM Hill Country Mountain Bike Challenge and the Paris-Nice Cycling Race in one article….but putting them both together in one photo post just doubles the amount of viewing goodness.

Check out some photos I took from last weekend’s Mountain Bike Race at Flat Rock Ranch in Comfort, Texas as well as some shots my friend Cristi Ruhlman took at the Paris-Nice on the weekend.

Bryan Kreitz of Team Bicycle Sport Shop Austin in the Cat 1 – 30 to 39 age group

Anthony Brand of Bikeland Factory Developmental Team in the Cat 1 (age 19-29)

The Cat 2’s take off from the start line

The Cat 2 (age 30-34) podium: Tim Rawlins, Jason Silva, and Wes Jerman in first

Austin’s Shontell Gauthier of Austin Flyers Women’s Cycling took first in the Women’s Cat 1 Pro

Watch for this kid….Jorge Munoz Jr from Laredo, TX is only 13 years old and took 1st in the Cat 3 19-29 age category

Paris-Nice 2011: Andreas Kloden

Cristi takes some shots while sitting at the Café Cycliste in a town just around Grasse

I hope to attend one of these pro races with Cristi in the near future

Enjoy Your Ride

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
