Strava Attack Part II
A few weeks ago I talked about setting out on a ride with the mission of taking back a lost KOM on Strava. Yeah, I’ve recently become a Stravaholic along with several other cyclists.
Well, the last time I wasn’t successful in my mission….but this time it’s a different story. Yesterday I got a notification saying I had lost my King of the Mountain for the Calinviny Incline by 3 seconds. You see, there was a race on the weekend and one of the hot young Grenada cyclists captured the segment along with one other. But today I was set on getting it back.
The Calinviny Incline is a short segment along a route I take at least a few times each week, so I know it well. I also knew that making up a few extra seconds would be easy breezy.
As I neared the climb, I wasn’t exactly sure where the segment started but as soon as the incline began….I took off. I felt good and I felt fast. As I reached the top, I continued pushing hard because I also didn’t know exactly where the segment finished. As I continued with my ride, I was almost certain I had regained the crown.
Then I got home and totally forgot to plug in my Garmin to see the results. To be honest, I used to only upload my Garmin about once a month…but now that I’m a Stravaholic I find myself doing it way more often.
Once uploaded, I got a smile on my face when I saw I had regained the Calinviny KOM by 4 seconds. Yeah, I’ll definitely be pushing that hill each time now so I can add even more time.
The Strava Battle is On
There’s been an update to this story before publishing. I regained this KOM on Tuesday, but then later in the day the same kid who knocked me off…did it again. This time by 11 seconds. What?
He may be half my age, but I was set on doing my best to get it back again. I took a better look at the segment and realized it started sooner than I thought, so this morning I kicked off my sprint right at the start and gunned it up the hill.
I didn’t feel like I was at my best today, but I just got home and was happy to see that I regained the KOM once again….by 1 second.
This is honestly my first time getting caught up in all the Stravapolooza, but it’s been fun.
