Are the winter blues getting you down? It may be time to book your summer holiday and start dreaming of that sun-kissed paradise. There are heaps of destinations to choose from, but here are five of the best for an all-inclusive getaway.

The Algarve

The world renowned beaches of the Algarve have long been attracting sun worshipping holidaymakers. It’s no surprise given the climate and resorts to suit all budgets. A family-friendly destination, visitors needn’t spend the holiday glued to a sun lounger. The region is famed for its outdoor pursuits, from surfing to mountain biking, golf and much more. Stay at one of the impressive resort towns such as Lagos and you’ll enjoy no shortage of fun-filled attractions. Lagos Zoo shouldn’t be missed as well as a trip to one of Portugal’s largest waterparks, Aqualand.

Santorini

Few destinations offer the romantic allure quite like the Greek Islands. Rising from the sparling Aegean is the picturesque island of Santorini, complete with whitewashed villas and secluded beaches. It’s the perfect setting to rekindle the romance where you can choose from boutique hotels or resorts, many of which include spa facilities. For a one-of-a-kind experience, be sure to visit Red Beach. This spectacular bay takes on the color of love with the sand acquiring a deep red hue. Other attractions include volcanic mud baths for a rejuvenating dip and shopaholics shouldn’t miss a trip to the boutique designers of the island’s capital, Fira.

Turkey

A country as diverse as it is strikingly beautiful, it’s no surprise that Turkey is a must visit summer destination. For crystal clear waters and pristine beaches, where better than the aptly named Turquoise Coast? Also known as Antalya, this region is home to 400 miles of uninterrupted coastline. Lay your towel at one of the many exclusive resorts, such as the ones offered by loveholidays.com, and enjoy some pampering. Although you’ll have the choice of international eateries, it’s worth indulging in the local specialties from meze dishes to the honey drenched Baklava.

2

Aruba

For those seeking picture postcard beaches, the magical island of Aruba is waiting to be explored. This Caribbean paradise promises an exciting mix of beachside bliss and thrill seeking activities. Once you’ve dragged yourself away from the indulgent luxury of your resort, visit the most famed stretch of white sands, Palm Beach. Here you can enjoy the many watersports from snorkeling to windsurfing and jet skiing. Fans of the outdoors should also visit the Arikok National Wildlife Park. It’s home to the highest point on the island, Mount Jamota. Make the journey to the summit and marvel at awe-inspiring views.

Gran Canaria

With temperatures soaring throughout the summer months, choose any of the Canary Islands and you’re guaranteed some fun in the sun. For the first-time visitor, the island of Gran Canaria is a great introduction. This nature lover’s paradise is home to a national park, the sand dunes of Maspalomas and the ancient Doramas Jungle. There are also lots of historic sights, many of which can be found in Vegueta — the capital’s old town. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to impressive architecture dating back to the 15thcentury.

Choose any one of these destinations and you can look forward to an unforgettable experience. Banish the blues and start planning your summer adventure now.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
