Weight Loss: It Takes More Than Cycling

Cycling for Optimal Weight LogoCycling is an incredible way to get in shape and lose weight, but with the risk of sounding kind of negative…..I’m here to say that it’s going to take more than just cycling.

I can bust my butt each week with over a hundred miles of grueling training, but if I’m eating like crap I’ve still experienced some weight gain.  True story.  It really comes down to expending more energy than you’re putting in your body.  So in my opinion, nutrition is the biggest factor in successful weight loss and for getting your body in shape.

If you’re part of a group ride crew, be careful with the post-ride coffee shop or beer stop.  All that hard work and energy burning can quickly be put back on with sugary treats or too many beers.

A while back, Kelli and I put together a Min-E-Book called Cycling for Optimal Weight.  Well, it’s time to revisit that book and give you the chance to download it for yourself.  It’s totally free, but full of incredible information that will help you shape up and achieve your optimal weight this summer.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
