What Cycling Stuff Are You Buying Next?
Whenever you’re passionate about something, you’re always thinking about it and always wanting more. You’ve heard people talk about the N+1 mentality when it comes to cyclists and their bikes. Yes, the perfect number of bikes to personally have is always one more than you currently have.
Okay, so it’s safe to say that all of us would absolutely love a new bike…..but let’s talk for a second about cycling gear and accessories. Although these things can be quite pricey themselves, it’s definitely a lot cheaper than buying a bike.
I’d love to hear about what’s on your road cycling gear wish list, but to kick off your cravings…..here’s a few new cool things that you just might want to include:
Garmin Edge 520 – In my opinion, this is the best cycling computer out there right now. It’s small, functional, and can do a whole lot more than the Edge 500. Being integrated with Strava and having up to date smart phone and modern tech capabilities, makes this cycling computer worthy of your want list. Average Price: $300
Vector 2S Pedal-Based Power Meter – You’ve heard us talking on our Cycling 360 podcasts about power meters, and feel like you’re ready to incorporate this into your training and cycling. Well, it doesn’t get much easier than popping on these Vector pedals to your bike. Average Price: $900
Met Helmet – I’ve personally tried a bunch of different helmet brands and varieties…..and my favorite to date is the MET Estro. Well, this company just launched a very cool new helmet in the UK called the Manta and really want to get my head into one of those. But since I’m considered to be in their North American market, I will have to wait for their CPSC helmet coming out in November. An awesome helmet, should definitely be on your cycling wish list. Average Price: $180
Boa Retention System – If you don’t already have a pair of cycling shoes with the Boa Retention System, put it on your list. When I recently wrote about 3 things all road cyclists should have on their feet, I talked about my Pearl Izumi shoes and how I really dig the tightening set up. Whether it’s this brand or not, think about getting a new pair of shoes that incorporates this system. Average Price (shoes): $150
Okay, so what’s on your cycling accessory wish list?
On my wish list: As I turned 70 this year – I wish for a small oxygen tank so I can survive the Vancouver/Whistler Gran Fondo!
Hahahaha, nice one Herb. Good luck with the Fondo.
New bibs and one of those new little Garmins that were just released. New bar tape, too.
New helmet at some point, but those first three are higher on my wish list.
Sounds good, Paul. Hey, I’m really hoping to get to Austin this winter. We’ll definitely have to meet up and get out riding.
