Will Immersive Fitness Revolutionize the Fitness Industry?

Group fitness and indoor cycling may not be my kind of thing, but I know there are a lot of people who move their bodies solely because this option is available to them. But watch out, the indoor fitness class industry is about to get rocked with Immersive Fitness.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever told our readers this before, but I once was held my certified spin instructor card. Yeah, me….the guy who several times has talked about his dislike in cycling indoors.

I got certified when I was managing a medical fitness center in Austin back in 2005/2006, along with a few of our staff who would be the instructors. But seeing as I was now qualified, I though I would give it a shot.

After sitting in on a few classes, and leading a couple of my own…..I quickly realized I just couldn’t do it. Spinning was definitely not for me.

But in the limited amount of time that I spent as a spin instructor, the thought of immersing the class through the use of cycling video did cross my mind.

Well, fast forward to right now and it looks like Les Mills and Reebok are about to do this exact sort of thing. Their new concept in studio fitness is called Immersive Fitness, and features cinema quality video content projected onto screens of a purpose-built studio. Instructors perform exercise moves perfectly synchronized with music and graphics. The purpose is to create a full out immersive fitness experience.

From the looks of their brand new promotional video starring Genevieve Aitken (25-year-old stunt performer and actress whose recent projects include Mad Max, The Hobbit trilogy and Evil Dead), I can tell that this is going to add a whole lot of excitement to group fitness.

The video doesn’t really show all that much, but they have additional photos on the Immersive Fitness Instagram page. Even though this typically isn’t my thing, it does look rather cool…and I love the idea of Immersive Fitness.

Sure, getting outside and doing it for real is still my favorite option but for those who prefer it on the inside this is sure to spark things up. But you’re going to have to wait a little bit.

Les Mills and Reebok have plans for a US tour in 2015 that will feature pop-up, purpose built studios to allow people to experience Immersive Fitness. The dates and cities for the tour will be announced at a later date. If you want to stay on top of it, sign up at http://www.lesmills.com/immersivefitness or follow along on Instagram.

The next level of fitness is here. IMMERSIVE FITNESS™ surrounds participants with cinema quality video content projected onto screens of a purpose-built studio.  Exercise moves synchronize perfectly with music and graphics, creating a truly immersive fitness experience. Learn more

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
