Let’s Talk About The Release
Cycling can be one of the best releasers from day to day stress, but what if you need something else to act as The Release? In this edition of Let’s Talk, I’d like your help in building the post by commenting on a couple different things. First, tell us about the other releasers in your life other than cycling…and also let us know what it is about being on the bike that provides you with that ahhhh feeling.
In this quick video I explain how cycling here in Grenada has not really given me the release that I’m sued to getting from the bike, but I also talk about the one thing that always gives me a break from my stressors.

Let’s Talk.
For me cycling is by far the best release. I do other forms of excercise (running, swimming) but they do not come close to what I get from a long ride (somewhere without a lot of traffic) where I push hard. It is a wonderful feeling.
I also very much enjoy cleaning and polishing my bicycles. I get satisfaction from a clean and sparkly bicycle. Showing my bicycle some love makes me appreciate it’s beauty and design. It is not just a machine, it is my partner, my dance partner, in a way that is difficult to explain. They share my rides, my thoughts, my highs and lows, my ups and downs. Taking care of my partner enables us to spend some quality time together on and off the road. For me it is very relaxing to clean and polish the frame, fork and each component. Stepping back and taking in the newly cleaned bike is oh so releasing, urging me to go for the next ride.
So true. We become cyber with the cycle. Probably true for motorists and all of the car mythology. But there it is — a partner and corporeal extension — our mode of transport.
Short rides for errands, coffee, etc. don’t really fall into the category but cycling is my “Release”. In the act of biking I am “living in the moment” (mindfulness}. On the bike I am focused on the my breathing, the road, the sounds and what my body is telling me. My other “Release” is meditation, while it is not active I focus on my breathing and not holding on to thoughts that pop into my consciousness.
Cycling is my favorite release. It’s one of the main reasons I ride.
My bike rides can be my release at times, and others they are either training rides or something less relaxing. Other than the bike, I find reading to be my release. It give me the feeling you described in the video.
Cycling is The Release™ because it’s centered on the core essence of human existence. Cycling emerges the primordial self, and reminds you that you can move yourself through time and space to be in perfect synchronicity with existence and being. Cycling is circular, and seduces your senses into the ever-present ebb-and-flow of life and death — like the ocean that you have found in lieu of cycling given the realities of your environs.
Cycling holds the secret of the self, forever enlisting your senses to discover the answers that emerge one by one, on every ride.
Very well said.
