Make it Happen Monday: Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop

Other than my Family, cycling is about the only thing I’ve remained committed to over the years.  Since I took up road cycling 8 years ago, I’ve had a Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop attitude to pretty much everything about it. On an overall level, cycling has become a huge part of my life and...

You might remember my friend Joe from a few cycling hashtag posts that he did for us a while back. Well, today he’s caught up in one super cool event and I just had to write about it. Due to a two day closure of the 405 Freeway in LA, JetBlue Airlines is offering people...

Alcohol and Cycling

July 16, 2011

I am an active cyclist, but I also like to have some drinks….especially on the weekend.  I probably indulge more than I should, but it seems to happen quite often. How bad is this for me and my desire to lose some weight? Kelli’s Answer: Thanks for writing in.  Binge drinking must be avoided...

The 2011 edition of the Tour is already shaping up to be a spectacular affair in more ways than one. A huge number of crashes and abandonment’s from some high profile GC contenders (though not the most in Tour history… yet), some superb breakaway riding from… yes you’ve guessed it… Tommy V and Johnny...

Make it Happen Monday: Families

July 11, 2011
By

Each and every day….all around the world…..Families are in motion.  It honestly amazes me how on a daily basis a Family can get themselves ready, get the kids off to school or events, the Parents to work…..all the while never missing a beat.  Even when some sort of scheduling conflict comes up, all the...

One Meal Per Day Hi Kelli, I find with my busy schedule and lack of focus on my diet that I often go through my day only having one meal.  I’m still getting in lots of cycling, but wondering what I can be doing to lose weight. – GL Thanks for your question, GL....

Live to Ride

Today’s post comes from a new mate of mine named Jase Rodley. He’s a good old Australian boy who’s currently hanging out in my home country of Canada, ripping things up in the mountain bike heavens of Whistler, BC. I really dig this guy and look forward to getting to know him better. Jase...

Asparagus is one of those foods that you absolutely know must be extra-healthy for you just by looking at it.  It looks like it’s ready to defend itself.  And guess what?  When you eat it, it will add to your defenses.  And, it just might make you a better cyclist this week. How?  Keep...

Can Personality Make You a Champion?

July 6, 2011
By

This year’s Tour de France has just begun, but before it even got going there were predictions that Alberto Contador could very well take it once again.  If so, this would be his fourth TdF victory in the past five years….but why don’t people like to label him a Champion?  As they introduced him...

#bikeschool: What Would Your Bike Say?

Yesterday on Twitter, our friend @SaraSantiago asked an interesting #bikeschool question: It was nice to see a little of the #bikeschool magic happening randomly through the week and not just on Thursday nights.  Sara asked a fun question that sparked some interesting answers.  Below are just a couple of the responses, and you can...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
