Interstate at a Glance

Riding in Malaysia is an amazing thing. If you’re a serious cyclist and can ever make it out this way, please do. The possible terrain you can ride in a single day can’t be topped, between high mountain climbs, miles of fast downhills and ocean side flats, you’ll never for want of a better...

Don’t Vacation…Travel. #MakeitHappen

September 1, 2014

I’ve never called myself a vacationer, even though I’ve taken holidays all over the world.  To me, a get-away is not a chance to fall into the customized tourist trap….it’s the spirit of adventure.  I call it traveling, and this is so much different from taking a vacation. When I was younger I wrote...

Biker’s Nausea: Tips to Avoid Tossing Your Cookies on the Trail  by Tiffany Hanrahan Mountain biking is an extreme sport; it’s not for the faint of heart or the easily-upset stomach. It’s extremely fun, but the ride is a bit bumpy, and riders are known to get tossed from their bikes as well as...

Goodfluence Bicycle Tour: Food Waste

It’s pretty easy to see that Rob Greenfield’s 2014 ride across the United States is becoming a campaign against food waste.  When he kicked things off, Rob planned on promoting all sorts of good things that people could do for themselves, their community, and the world…..but the focus has been on dumpsters and the...

Readying for Interstate

This weekend is the Interstate ride, a three-day, 500km event through areas of mainland Malaysia. The first day we’re starting near Kuala Lumpur and riding up Fraser Hill. The second takes us into the Cameron Highlands, and the last day is downhill towards the ocean. It sells out quickly so you need to jump...

Make That Your Reality

Make That Your Reality

Over the years of working in the tourism industry of a Caribbean island…the number one comment I hear from people leaving to go back home is “It’s time to go back to reality”.  My response to them is always, “this is reality”. Reality is what we make it.  For some reason we often feel as if reality has...

The Benifit of eBikes for Commuters in Hilly Terrain

August 20, 2014
By

I’ve written many times about the hills here in Grenada, and I’ve seen some of the climbs you all have in your area as well.  For any of us who cycle regularly, the majority of them are manageable….even if they do kick our butts.  But what about people who want to commute by bike,...

Just like the world influencers before him, Rob Greenfield is grabbing a lot of attention for all the good things he’s doing.  Yes, my “Ghandi on a Bicycle” friend is really shaking things up as he continues his cross country ride. One of the many things Rob is passionate about is the amount of...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
