I was out on Sunday with my favorite riding partner and we passed this word – the only unnatural thing on the expanse of this wall along the train tracks. I told him I wanted to stop, and he waited patiently for me while I took this photo. We started off again. He was...

Paying It Forward
I gave away this bike on Saturday. Although it looks like an ordinary bike, this one was something special. This bike was therapist, friend, life preserver, and constant companion for the better part of a year. It was the reason to get out of bed in the morning and something to look forward to...

Road Rage
Early Saturday morning I had an encounter with an SUV on a stretch of Elston Avenue. Although Elston has long sections of protected bike lanes, this portion doesn’t have them. However, it’s a fairly wide street and at that time of the morning, has very little traffic. You develop a sixth sense riding in...

Releasing the Death Grip
Last Fall I bought a mountain bike. Nothing fancy…a good, basic beginner bike. I had never ridden off-road before; paved streets and sidewalks were the only terrain I needed to navigate growing up in the city. I’ve been riding this bike quite a bit in the last few weeks. It sat idle all summer...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration
Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea). I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.
My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.
Answer:
Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out. Have you tried either of these? Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
