I’m really excited about this weeks edition of Loving the Bike TV. This one totally is a huge factor in Loving Life on and off the Bike. I don’t know if I can stress it any more. As I mention in the video, many of you might not understand what I’m saying at first….but...

Loving the Bike TV: Taking Work Out of Your Work Day
Shit Cycling Climbers Say
It’s been about a year and a half since the “Shit Cyclists Say” video went viral and spurned a bunch of similar type posts. My buddy, Ryan van Duzer was the star of the original video (which has had well over a million views) and it’s still the best of the bunch. It’s been long...

Definition of Success
The word success is a funny thing….and what exactly is it anyway? We’re conditioned by the media and other influences around us that success equates to obtaining lots of money, owning a nice house and car, and having a position of status or power in the work you do. I don’t know about you,...

Do you see the cow too?
It’s never good news when awakened by a phone call at midnight. One of my oldest and dearest friends passed away on Sunday night. I never went back to sleep. I felt physically and emotionally exhausted on Monday morning. There were people to call and meetings to cancel. There were plans to be made. I...

Loving the BITE: Ultimate Joint Health Smoothie
I’ve definitely been on a joint-health-kick lately. It’s been all ginger and cherries here at Loving the Bite Joint Health Headquarters. And this week, it’s pineapple and bromelain. Joint health has been on my mind for good reason. We’ve discussed how cyclists can put their knees through almost 5000 flexions and extensions every hour. And that’s just...

Loving the Bike TV: Try Anything Once
We’ve all heard it…..”try anything once.” I couldn’t agree more. In this week’s edition of Loving the Bike TV, I explain why following this approach will help give you that Loving Life on and off the Bike feeling.

Adrenaline
You’ve seen the video of me cycling the roads here in Grenada. They really aren’t as scary as I make them out to be….it’s my rebel without a clue attitude that puts me in some very precarious situations. Yes, it’s probably as scary as I make it look. But that’s me. For some...

Bicycle Culture by Design: This TEDx Talk Rocks
I could have just put this video link on social media, but it is so much more worthy than just a simple tweet or post. This TEDx Talk came out in 2012, but I just happened across it today. It blew my cycling mind. “50 million people a year are injured in car accidents. 1.2...

Are You Using Time or Saving It?
Are you going to spend your day Using your time or Saving it? As is always the case with me, I take my inspiration from the things that cross my path. Many times I find it in kind of out-of-the-way places. My newest piece of wisdom comes from the one and only, Jimmy Buffett. His...

Everything Matters
This is a story about the bike community. On Tuesday, this Tweet appeared in my timeline: Sold my bike and now I’m sad. Decision I had to go with for now though. Ho hum. I’ll be living through all of you for a while. — velohut | kristin (@velohut) April 29, 2014 If you...

Loving the Bite: Meat-Eaters, Think About What Your Dinner Ate
I’ll be honest, this is likely not Darryl’s favorite recipe. Here at Loving the Bike, we have a good amount of balance…I am a plant and meat-eater who belongs to a family that owned and operated a small Organic and Grass-fed Cattle Ranch in the mountains of Colorado for over a hundred years. Darryl...

Loving the Bike TV: Rule Breaking and Anarchy
What if I told you one of the ways to achieve a Loving Life attitude was by breaking rules and promoting anarchy? Well, that’s exactly what I’m doing in this week’s episode of Loving the Bike TV. Before you think to yourself that I’ve lost it and x out of this post, have a...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration
Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea). I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.
My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.
Answer:
Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out. Have you tried either of these? Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
