November 12, 2012

Let me tell you about my secret weapon for being in the moment…it’s as simple as not owing a smart phone. It may come as a shock to many of you out there, but our family owns nothing more than a cheap pay as you go cell phone.  We keep it in the vehicle...

Goodbye Austin, Hello Grenada

As you read this blog post, I’m on my way to (another) new life.  This time it’s the Caribbean island of Grenada.  We’re sort of a Gypsy Family and have moved around countless times over the past 8 years….but this time I’m really planning on planting my feet in the sand and staying there...

Electronic Free Day…on and off the Bike

Quite a while ago our Family decided to make Sundays an electronic free day, meaning we wouldn’t use the TV, Computer, Phone, or any other similar device.  We’re not generally electronic obsessed, but for this one day a week we make sure to keep them off and totally focus on quality Family time. It’s...

Cyclists Help Rwanda Rise From Ashes

How do you make an inspirational story even better?  Add cycling to it.  Last week I viewed the Rwanda Cycling Team documentary called Rising From Ashes and I can honestly say it’s one of the best films I’ve ever seen.  Any movie that leaves me feeling fired up and motivated is two thumbs up in...

Monarchs in my Stomach

You’ve heard of having butterflies in your stomach, but what I’ve got is a serious case of Monarchs in mine. If having butterflies is in response to being nervous or anxious about something, then having Monarch butterflies is what happens when you’re about to kick it up Rockstar style and totally Make it Happen....

We all know of Nike’s famous tagline…Just Do It, but for today’s Make it Happen Monday post I wanted to encourage you all to Do It Now. One of the best pieces of wisdom I have ever received in my life came from a random person in an unexpected situation.  It must have been...

Follow Your Own Path

September 17, 2012

My Monday has been officially kickstarted thanks to inspirational artist Heather Rushton.  A few weeks ago, my wife sent me the link to this picture below and explained how beautiful she thought it was and how it fits so nicely into the vibe over here at Loving the Bike.  So I contacted Heather (the artist...

Simplicity….On and Off the Bike

September 10, 2012
By

I’ve always felt like Simplicity is the key to a happy and successful life.  I’ve done a pretty good job at keeping things as simplified as possible, but feel that I need to go even further to really get the full benefits of what this way of life has to offer. There’s already been...

The Happy Gene

The Happy Gene

If I had “the happy gene”, I wouldn’t personally need these Make it Happen Monday posts to fire me up each week.  But unfortunately I don’t have it. I honestly feel that some of us are born with DNA that makes us ultimately happy-go-lucky and are able to smile through each and every...

I recently posted about how I (as a Canadian living in the United States) celebrated the Fourth of July on and off my bike.  Along with having a great Independence Day ride, our Family spent some time at the local celebration going on in our neighborhood.  Most of the people around here know that...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
