Where is Your Happy Place?

It starts the night before, and quick torque check with the cleat wrench, maybe a damp cloth to take off the dust from the last struggle on the diamond, then a careful inspection of the glove, that stitched leather extension of your being on the defensive side of the ball… “Finest in the field”,...

Every Water Bottle Tells a Story

How deep is the connection to your cycling water bottle?  I don’t know about you, but I seem to have a story or something that comes to mind for every single one of my bottles. Other than the bike itself, the bottle is generally one thing that always comes along with you on a...

3 Feet is Not Enough

The 3 feet law has done a good job of making it aware to cyclists that they should be getting this much room from vehicles while out cycling….but I have a feeling that if you asked drivers what they think of the law, they would say “What is the 3 feet law?”. Yeah, I...

Flip-Flopping the Ride

Although I’m a lover of all types of bikes….I’d consider myself to be a road cyclist first and foremost.  I love the speed, the distance, and all the good stuff that comes from a road ride. Sure, I also love getting out on my mountain bike and ripping through trails….and if I had a...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
