The Bike is Always Greener…..

…..on the other side of the road. Yes, this is a play on one of the most famous proverbs in the World….please don’t judge me for the cheesy beginning to this post. Although we all might not fall victim to it, many of us have the tendency to look enviously at the lives of those...

Time: Living vs Passing Time

If finding the time were not an issue, we’d all ride 500 miles a week…right?  Unfortunately, most of us have to squeeze in our rides between work, family, and other commitments we have in our lives.  I am fortunate to get out for quite a few miles each week…..but it’s funny, the more I...

Cyclists are Not Unpredictable

You often hear drivers taking about feeling nervous around cyclists because they think people on bicycles are unpredictable.  What?  Are we really that erratic out there? Okay, so it’s been a while since I’ve gone off on a pro-bike rant….so let’s do this. I’d say we are much more reactionary than we are unpredictable.  We make...

It’s a Family Affair for this Cycling Family

Most families eat dinner together, maybe watch a little TV, go see a movie……..we ride our bikes. It’s what we’ve done for the past 5 years and I can’t imagine it any other way. It wasn’t always like this though…..Before we started cycling, my dad was VERY overweight and never wanted to do anything...

Extended Twitter Personality

Like it or not, Twitter is a part of our communicative world today.  If ten years ago you would have told me that there’s be this online platform where people sent out very short messages each day and used them to communicate and socialize with the world….I would have said you were nuts.  But...

I know I’m not alone in dreaming about taking cycling vacations in various parts of the world, right?  Picking a location is easy, but all the coordinating and planning is what I personally struggle with.  If I’m going to spend the money to go there, I want to make sure I’m doing and seeing...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
