Since starting this blog, I’ve wanted to dedicate a post solely to great photos.  Well, that day has come.  Thanks to my new buddy, Chris from Chris Gomez Photography I’m posting some of his original photos from this past weekend in Austin.  I’ve been looking forward to this weekend for a while now, as...

I just took part in another LiveSTRONG Challenge here in Austin, Texas over the weekend.  It was a great ride yesterday and it’s always a good time being part of this fantastic event. Now, although the LiveSTRONG Challenge is put on by the LiveSTRONG Organization….you know that many of the participants are there...

Austin Traffic

October 13, 2010
By

Just on the heels of “The Old Give and Take”, here I am talking about traffic in the city of Austin. Yes, I did give up some quiet, low traffic roads for what we have here in Austin….but the fact that I’m right now riding in October with warm temperatures is enough to make...

Does a More Expensive Bike Make a Better Cyclist?

October 8, 2010
By

You’re out riding, and you see a guy (or girl) on a pimped out $6,000 road bike….what’s the first thing that goes through your head?  Probably a few different things (and feel free to let me know what those things are with a comment below), but one possible thought is “man, this person must...

The Destressinator 3000 inator

October 6, 2010
By

A bike is definitely more than just a bike.  This week, I realized once again that many times it also acts like a “Destressinator 3000-inator”.   A few times in the past I have blogged about how being on the bike is often my only escape from the insanely busy and fast paced life...

A Giant On His Bicycle

A Giant On His Bicycle

I’m not a very big guy…..not quite 5’5″ and with all the cycling I’ve been doing, I’m down to around 120 pounds.  But when I’m on the bike, I feel like a giant. Yeah, I know you know the feeling….Unstoppable, Invincible, Indestructible. This “Bike Confidence” almost got me in a heap of trouble on...

Data for Goals – Mac Mondays #1

Regular readers of Loving The Bike may be curious as to why we are starting a feature called “Mac Mondays”.  I love technology (especially Mac computers and the iPhone) and  how it is becoming more and more integrated into our everyday lives; and, I noticed that it can be used in “cycle life”.  Every...

There are a few things that I’ve been wanting to blog about, so I’ve chosen today as the day to mash them all together into one happy little post.  I generally like to stick to a theme or topic for each blog post, but I’m cool with trying out something different today.   How...

Should You Cycle When Sick?

August 27, 2010
By

I’m not sure if it’s been just plain good luck, or if being extremely conscious of taking in good whole foods is the reason…but I’ve been running on healthy and haven’t had a cold for longer than I can remember.  In fact, it has been at least a couple years or more since I...

What Have You Passed?

What Have You Passed?

Just one of the many things I love about being out cycling is surrounding myself with nature.  Biking past lakes, over creeks, alongside canola fields or sugar cane fields make being out there on the bike, even better.  But as I passed by a cute little fox yesterday on my ride, I got to...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
