I’ve seen a lot of people in their 20’s who’ve basically given up on their bodies. They have passed the point where they didn’t have to do any work in order to keep a good looking and pain free body. But when it became something they had to work at…they gave up on it....

In today’s society and North American culture that we live in, it’s as easy as dropping a few thousand dollars, a nip here, a tuck there…..and you can instantly look younger. In the good old days, people had to search (and work) to find the Fountain of Youth….now it’s as simple as hitting the...

Recent years have seen the sport of cycle racing careering from pillar to post on the subject of doping which have thrown our sport into the mainstream media in all the wrong ways. I wish I could just tell the world to stop. Grab hold of the Government and tell them to wise up and focus on humanity. Tap into the bank accounts of the overly wealthy and use it for something important. Find out if the pharmaceutical world really does have the cure. Is it just...

It was just last summer that I was living life in the Big Ring. Being in Saskatchewan and riding the flat prairie roads provided the setting for some great big ring riding. But then when I arrived in the hill country of Austin last September, that was brought to a sudden halt. It then...

About ten and a half years ago, I made a presentation at a business breakfast meeting. This was no ordinary speech…I addressed a bunch of businessy type people wearing my totally “non-businessy” bright yellow pants, and delivered the presentation while sitting up on the speaking podium. This day stands out to me, not because...

Hydrating I’m at the stage where I’m trying to figure out the best ways to fuel and hydrate on a ride to avoid energy dips and mad cramps. Does ones weight play a part in determining how many mg (40-60 you say) p/hr? How do I decide on source of energy, protein shake vs protein bar,...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration
Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea). I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.
My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.
Answer:
Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out. Have you tried either of these? Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
