A little while back I posted about an “Irie” jersey I received from Knights of MoBay. Although I am a short, white Canadian on the outside…inside lies a true rasta man just trying to get out. Because of this, it was no doubt that I loved the jersey and have really enjoyed the relationship...

The British and world media may have been talking about London 2012 non-stop for the past year but the men’s Olympic Road Race did not disappoint. I was lucky enough to be on the race-making Straw Belle Slope on Box Hill with my brother @SteamyWynndows and saw some fantastic racing as well as humongous...

When I’m cycling down the car-filled roads of Austin, I often feel like I’m like one of those tiny lap dogs who has never looked in the mirror and totally thinks he’s a raging pit bull. You know the kind I’m talking about. They weigh 3 pounds and are only a few inches high,...

It might have only been for one day, but my buddy Ryan van Duzer definitely made his mark on RAGBRAI (stands for “The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa” and is a seven-day ride across the state). If you don’t already know about this cycling celebrity known as Duzer, you’re in for a treat with...

It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned pro or just getting used to your clipless pedals, you’ve no doubt experienced some misfiring of your clip-in. You pedal off from a red light, go to jam your shoe into the pedal, and either totally slip off or continue trying to stab it into place. Yeah,...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration
Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea). I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.
My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.
Answer:
Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out. Have you tried either of these? Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
