A Plea from a Runner

We’re very happy to have a guest post by our Running Sister, Brady today……we’re not related, but we like to think of her as our online blogging sibling.  Yeah, she’s a runner…..but she’s part of the family.  What can I say? A Plea from a Runner By Brady Gervais There are runners who also...

#bikeschool: Rockschool

If you were at last week’s #bikeschool Live you will have seen that I asked a question about music to ride and train to and asked for your favourite choices. Some people were rightfully skeptical about listening to music on the bike which I would dissuade you from. But that’s OK because LovingTheBike.com...

I’m a little late getting this post up, but seeing as I had access to some incredible photos by Jessica Alexander…I wanted to put up a quick post on the 2011 North American Cycle Courier Championships (NACCC) held in Austin a week ago. The NACCC happens each year and is a weekend full of...

Austin Weekend in Review

This past weekend was totally buzzing here in Austin with the Livestrong Challenge taking place. Thousands of cyclists took part in what I feel is one of the best rides of the year and I once again had a great time.  Austin also hosted the Texas Custom Bicycle Show this weekend with some amazing...

Make it Happen Monday: The Tambo Way

I really do believe that the more you worry about something, the more problems you encounter.  Although I try to fight it, I was born a worrier and struggle with letting it go each and every day.  But the more life I live, the more I realize that if you do not let worry...

Bike Jewelry

A few weeks ago I posted some bicycle jewelry pictures on Twitter to see what kind of feedback they would receive.  I had an overwhelming amount of people come back saying that this stuff was amazing and where could they get their hands on this jewelry. So today we’re doing something a little bit...

A Day in the Life of a SS

A few weeks back I posted about Leigh Brandt and explained how she has now become a road cyclist.  My friend @bikerly shot back and said that he’d much prefer to see some Fixed Gear eye candy…..so this one’s for him, sort of.  Instead of a bunch of fixie shots, today we have a...

#bikeschool: WyndyMilla

As LovingTheBike’s designated UK dude I’m really excited about today’s article and the news we are spreading. Although WyndyMilla is a UK based company, their influence is spreading across the globe quicker than Magnus Backstedt can crack a bottom bracket and they are doing some great things in the Pro Peloton as well as...

Make it Happen Monday: Fight For World Happiness

In a world full of happy people, I’d never have a concern. Never wondering how that child feels. Never wondering why there isn’t more love. A friend would help a friend.  A stranger would help a stranger. Every person would show kindness to the person sitting next to them. We’d all remain perfect, just...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
