Wet & Wild: Winter Riding

December is definitely here and I don’t know about the rest of you, but it’s bloomin’ cold over her in the good old U of K. When I checked out LovingTheBike.com yesterday morning (as I do every day, like a good ’employee’) I was filled with a sense of wonder tinged with a massive...

November 20, 2012

Call me vain, but I really enjoy getting on the video camera and putting out a little facetime to the followers of Loving the Bike. I took a minute to capture my thoughts in response to the question I seem to be getting asked a whole lot lately….Why Are You In Grenada?  ...

It’s Make it Happen Monday over here at Loving the Bike, and Mrs. Loving the Bike did a great job at starting off the week with some beautiful words of wisdom.  I wanted to check in as well with a quick video post just before I made it happen with my first ride here...

Goodbye Austin, Hello Grenada

As you read this blog post, I’m on my way to (another) new life.  This time it’s the Caribbean island of Grenada.  We’re sort of a Gypsy Family and have moved around countless times over the past 8 years….but this time I’m really planning on planting my feet in the sand and staying there...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
