#bikeschool: Showering With Your Helmet?

It all started with a harmless discussion about what to do after you finish a ride.  This discussion took place on the Cycling360 Podcast with myself and Rob suggesting that someone can take their helmet into the shower with them to rinse it off.  Victor, being the wild man that he is, laughed at...

#bikeschool: Every day is a school day

As some of you may be aware I took part in a bike race on Sunday… my first race in 26 years! I’ve been cycling for a few years now and I’m a terribly competitive little so-and-so, which made me realise I was ready to step my cycling up a level. This week’s post...

For today’s #bikeschool post, we thought we’d touch on some of the thoughts our classmates have been having this week.  This is a sampling of some of the #bikeschool tweets that have went out this past week.  As always, the #bikeschool hashtag is pumping out incredible bikey goodness.   As promised, this week I have the sights, the sounds… and the slightly drunk provincial early evening bike races that occured over stage 2 & 3 of this years Tour whilst @SteamyWynndows, @AndyMWild & I were there. After a lot of walking on day 1 to catch the action in two of the...

#bikeschool: Allez Le Tour

July 12, 2011

The 2011 edition of the Tour is already shaping up to be a spectacular affair in more ways than one. A huge number of crashes and abandonment’s from some high profile GC contenders (though not the most in Tour history… yet), some superb breakaway riding from… yes you’ve guessed it… Tommy V and Johnny...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
