Make it Happen Monday: One Big Breath

January 16, 2012
By

Right now in Austin we’re deep in the heart of cedar allergy season, and once again it’s wreaking havoc on my cycling lungs.  They call it “cedar fever” and a lot of people over here get knocked down pretty hard with the punch it packs each year. One of the things it does to...

Make it Happen Monday: What’s Right?

January 2, 2012
By

I often catch myself saying the words, “what’s wrong” several times a week.  Whether it’s in the direction of my baby boy who’s crying, my older kids’ upset tone, or a sigh of frustration from my Wife….those two words seem to be the first to pop out. If you believe in the power of...

Make it Happen Monday: Definition of Success

Do you have a personal definition for success? You know, a way of measuring if you’re achieving all you strive to be in life or if you’re making the kind of impact you want to leave on our World. There are countless definitions for success out there, but my favorite has always been this...

November 14, 2011
By

In last week’s Make it Happen Monday post, I talked about one of my life hero’s, Morrie Schwartz, and his quote about Creating Your Own Culture.  As a follow-up to that post, I wanted to dive a little deeper into this topic and talk a little more about following your own star. Consider the...

Make it Happen Monday: Create Your Own Culture

November 7, 2011
By

One of my favorite quotes of all time is: “The culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves.  And you have to be strong enough to say, if the culture doesn’t work, don’t buy it.  Create your own.” This is a quote by a man named Morrie Schwartz, a retired college...

Make it Happen Monday: If I Knew…

October 31, 2011
By

If I knew I had exactly 25 years to live, I’d be intent on living them well. I’m sure many times during those years, I would lose sight of time. And slip into a regular routine. If I knew I had 10 years to live, initially I would be quite concerned. I would make...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
