For the past month I have tried to sit down and lay out a review of two different products…..Action Wipes and CarboRocket. Both of these companies sent me samples of their products for the purpose of reviewing it on this website, and although this has been super tough for me I am finally going...

A Closet Biking Spitter Speaks

April 16, 2010
By

Okay, I have to let you know that I don’t think I come across as a vulgar, gross, or raunchy type of guy in my day to day life. Just wanted to set that straight before diving into a blog post all about spitting. On a day to day basis, I don’t spit. I...

Better By Bike/Share the Road

I started to write today’s post as more of an informative type article and just when I had about wrapped it up, I decided to go back and start over.  I had the feeling that what I had down was going to majorly bore my readers with too much information.  I still might have...

Good Weather Turned Bad

April 12, 2010

Okay, so what do you do when you’ve been out riding for the past month and all of a sudden you’re sent back in to winter in just a turn of a day?  Well for me it entailed a bunch of “I can’t believe this”, “WTF”, and “I can’t freaking believe this”. Riding season...

Life Without You

April 7, 2010
By

What would life be like without the bike? Pretty hard to imagine now isn’t it? I’ve loved the bike for a very long time, but it wasn’t until recently that I formed that heartfelt emotion with it, and the knowing of just how important bikes really are. I could go on and on about...

Look Who’s Loving the Bike – April

Alison Hill – Oxford, UK “Being brought up in Cambridge I was on my bike around the city as far back as I remember.  But I was say that The Netherlands is the best place I have ever cycled. We didn’t even need a cycling map as we could be so sure that there...

Belize Debriefed

I would have to say that my trip to Belize was extremely productive. The seven days that I spent in the country were jam packed full of travel, meetings, sites, and people. We crammed so much into that one week that it honestly felt like we had been there for a month. We were...

I’ve Officially Been Pimped…uhhh…Fit

March 29, 2010
By

Three weeks ago today, I started my virtual bike fit process with Victor from Bicycle Lab.  I’ve explained the pre-fit and mid-fit process previously, and have shared my comments…and it’s time to wrap it all up with my post-fit review. It didn’t actually take three full weeks to complete the process.  We pretty much...

What Propels You?

March 26, 2010
By

Hello cycling world, this is my first (of hopefully many regular) posts. I’m new to this community and I didn’t realize how many bike lovers there are in the world and the connection that exists between everyone. My eyes are open and I’m impressed. Why? I never realized or thought about the passion that...

Cycling “As If”

There has been a lot of interest in “The Law of Attraction” over the past few years.  Books like “The Secret”, “The Answer”, and many more have become bestsellers and created a huge following and a lot of interest.  Even Fat Cyclist himself did a post on “How to use ‘The Secret’ in Cycling”….so...

Live From Belize

March 22, 2010
By

I arrived in Belize on Friday with the first experience in the country being a quick spin around Belize City. I had heard that this area isn’t a very nice place compared to the rest of the country, so I left the airport expecting the worst….and was pleasantly surprised. I recorded this video about...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
