I’ve been wearing a Road ID on my wrist for about the past 5 years. Luckily I’ve never needed any medical staff to make use of it, but I like having it there. To be honest, I dig it for other reasons than what it would provide for me if I was hurt on...

Remember
This week, Canadians and Americans remember National soldiers as they celebrate Remembrance Day and Veteran’s Day. In honor of what these holidays represent, I’ve put together a Make it Happen poem with a positive spin to help us all kick ass this week. Is it all just wasted time? Can you look back with pride...

The Rise of City Bike Schemes
The Rise Of City Bike Schemes Urban bike sharing schemes aren’t a new concept. In fact, they’ve been operating in certain parts of the world for decades. As far back as 1968, a project like this was launched on the streets of Amsterdam. Meanwhile, Copenhagen introduced such a cycling initiative in 1995. However, this...

Nuun Energy: Should You Take it on the Ride?
I’ve written before that I’m not big on all the energy drinks available on the market today. I feel that water is the Mightiest Energy Drink of them all. But I was recently asked to try out Nuun Energy, and seeing as I’m a Nuun fan I thought I’d give it a shot. If...

Achieving Greatness Means Taking Risks
Greatness doesn’t come easily. In order to achieve something BIG, one must take a risk. Success doesn’t come knocking on our door, we must go after it and going after it means choosing an uncommon path. Gaby Douglas won Gold because she took a risk and moved in with a foster family to live...

Cyclist: a Vehicle or Pedestrian?
It may sound like an odd question, but do you think non-cyclists think of us as a vehicle or pedestrian when we’re on our bikes? I never thought of it coming to these two options before moving to Grenada….a place where cyclists are totally thought of as a pedestrian. A what? How can you...

That’s Ok.

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration
Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea). I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.
My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.
Answer:
Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out. Have you tried either of these? Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
