This is Me. This is #MakeitHappen.

There is a song inside me that is destined to top the charts. There is a need to be happy and in control at all times. I can see myself being someone who comforts people and makes them feel great. But also extreme anger, that at times makes me say things I cannot believe. Definitely...

Peace on Earth. Ride Your Bike.

For as long as history can remember, people have been making Christmas wishes.  Speaking words of wisdom and prayers for Peace On Earth.  Something we all want.  Something so amazing that it’s hard to even imagine. Another year goes by.  John Lennon sings out….”So this is Christmas, and what have you done?”  Sounds of...

Stand on the Pedals or Sit in the Saddle?

It’s the questions I hear from thousands of cyclists…..when climbing a hill, should I stand on my pedals or sit in the saddle? We watch pro cycling and get excited when we see people like Alberto Contador dancing on his pedals as he makes his way up a big climb.  Yeah, I’m not a...

Motorized Bicycles

I’m going to say this right now: I feel a little blasphemous writing about motorized bicycles on Loving the Bike. Sorry Darryl, but it’s difficult to enjoy every bike ride, especially when you have a laptop in a bag on your back, it’s threatening to rain and it’s all uphill to the cafe you...

3 Things You Must Do in Grenada….But Haven’t

Yes, this is a cycling lifestyle blog…..but it’s also my outlet to the world, so sometimes I talk more about lifestyle than I do about bikes.  Well this time I’m promoting my island home of Grenada and posting about something that no travel blogger or Grenadian website has yet to get out. I’ve seen...

Loving the BITE: The Great Oat and Intact Grains

You’ve heard of whole grains vs. refined grains. You’ve seen the food guide pyramid with grains at the base. And now, you’ve likely heard of completely grains-free eating from Paleo and eating philosophies. I’m often asked for my opinion on grains, so here it is. As with all foods, I recommend whole, real foods. I...

How exactly do we choose our career path?  You know, it’s only the thing that the we’ll do for the majority or a big chunk of our lives.  No big deal, right?  But think about it for a second.  How did you fall into this career?  How did you decide what education or training...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
