Effective Time Breeds Relaxing Time

We celebrated our Loving the Bike 5 year birthday last Friday.  If there’s one thing I’ve learned over these years is that by busting my butt and putting in effective time…..I’m now able to coast a little and take time for relaxation. Let me explain.  In the beginning, I put in hours and hours...

You Can’t Silence Me or Bob Marley

By some massively cool coincidence, Loving the Bike shares the same birthday with the legend, Bob Marley.  Today, we turn five….and if Bob was still around we’d be clinking mellow mood cans and toasting his 70th. In honor of our special day, I thought it would be perfect timing to share a true Bob...

Riding Outside the Box

I’ve talked many times about thinking outside the box and doing things differently, but what is this idea of Riding Outside the Box all about? I don’t know about you, but I often get caught up riding the same sort of intensity and mileage almost every week.  Not like that’s a bad thing as I’m...

Last night I realized that at this moment in my life, I don’t want anything more than I have right now.  Seeing that I live a pretty simple life, I thought it’s a great feeling to be this way. How about you?  Are you content with where you’re at?  I feel it’s another ingredient...

Appreciate Your Ride

Appreciate Your Ride

Our Loving the Bike tagline might be “Enjoy Your Ride”, but when it comes to Making it Happen I feel that “Appreciate Your Ride” is more applicable. If this fast paced world of ours, taking time to smell the roses is happening less and less.  I know this has potential for sounding redundant and...

Loving the Bike TV: Live an Adventure

January 21, 2015
By

I’ve talked many times about doing new things and living outside your comfort zone, and this week I’m reinforcing this suggestion. Last weekend, my boys and I definitely climbed out of our boxes and did something we’ve never done before.  There were challenges, some swearing, and three boys who finished up feeling quite proud...

Image, Dress Code, and Cycling

Would you show up to a formal business meeting wearing ripped jeans and a t-shirt?  How about showing up to a group road ride wearing baggy shorts and running shoes? It’s funny how even though these kinds of things don’t have an official dress code, we feel as if they do.  But you have...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration

Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea).  I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.

My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.

Answer:

Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out.  Have you tried either of these?  Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
