As you can tell from the title, this day is the only one like it that you’ll ever know. What are you going to do with it? Yeah, the easy way out is to live it just like you did yesterday and the day before. But the #MakeitHappen option is to spiral upwards, live...

The Only April 20, 2015 You’ll Know
Priorities and Core Values
Last week a good buddy of mine said to me…“If you’re as busy as you say you are, how can you get out there for all those long rides?”. “Priorities, my friend”, was my simple reply. In essence there are only three main ingredients that fill my days….Family, Cycling, and Work. If I’m good with...

The Ladder
Whatever it is, you’re either climbing up or down the ladder. Simple as that. But the good news is that if you’re descending from where you really want to be going, all you have to do is climb one rung in the opposite direction and you’re back moving in the right direction. Okay, so...

The Missing Peace
It’s no secret that I haven’t been firing at the highest level the past couple years or so. I haven’t even come close to consistently being the fun-loving, easy-going dude that I love to be. But I’ve found the missing peace. A couple weeks ago, my nutritional friend Kelli wrote me a beautiful e-mail. In that...

“I Own a Donkey”
I’ve talked about it a few times, but never dedicated a post entirely to our donkey, Moonlight Poet. Yes, our family owns a donkey, and it’s definitely something worthy of a #MakeitHappen Monday post. People ask me all the time, why do you have a donkey? Well, the quick answer is….why not? A little...

How I Concentrate With Kids Around
My blogging buddy, Zoe from Grenada 40, suggested I put up something about how to write a post when your kids are around. Seeing as 90% of the articles I put up were written with my kids within 3 feet of me, I figured I just might know something about this subject. Growing up,...

The Ease of Success. Making Things Easy.
There are plenty of people who have defined what it takes to create or reach success…..and each of them have been exactly right. Heck, I’ve even posted about my man Bob Dylan’s quote which is probably my personal favorite. But something hit me recently, and made me realize that achieving success is even better...

The Happiness Equation
We all want happiness, right? Of course we do. So how come so many of us are always searching for it. Shouldn’t we have already found it by now? Cycling is one of the things that makes me happy. Everything about it. I’m happy on my bike. I’m happy when I get new bike...

Effective Time Breeds Relaxing Time
We celebrated our Loving the Bike 5 year birthday last Friday. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over these years is that by busting my butt and putting in effective time…..I’m now able to coast a little and take time for relaxation. Let me explain. In the beginning, I put in hours and hours...

Appreciate Your Ride
Our Loving the Bike tagline might be “Enjoy Your Ride”, but when it comes to Making it Happen I feel that “Appreciate Your Ride” is more applicable. If this fast paced world of ours, taking time to smell the roses is happening less and less. I know this has potential for sounding redundant and...

Clouds of Change
Change is feared by us at times, created by us sometimes, often forced on us…..and sometimes desired. Depending on what the change is, and how it was initiated, it can bring different meanings and emotions. I’m sure you’ve all read or heard articles on change, so I’m not going to give you some motivational story...

12 Days into 2015
I didn’t watch the ball drop. I never had a beer, wine, or Champaign. In fact I never even made it to Midnight. Here I am sitting 12 whole days into the new year, and to be honest, December 31 now seems far enough away that it’s like it never even happened. I may not...

Sugar Alternatives for Energy and Hydration
Question: I am using the homebrew sugar formulations (sometimes added to green tea). I am also trying to wean myself off 1/2 dose adrenalean “lip tonic delivery system” (biorhythm brand- caffeine, hoodia g, synephrine, yohimbe) capsule for energy.
My question is other than juice, can you suggest modifications in lieu of table sugar for energy and hydration.
Answer:
Both raw/organic honey or agave can work great in the homebrew (substitute in the same quantities for the sugar, or to taste), but you do have to shake well in order to make sure they don’t settle out. Have you tried either of these? Also, make sure to use at least the minimum amount of salt recommended in the homebrew as the temps rise, you need the sodium replacement if you’re sweating.
